Drifting the E90
I watched a documentary in Discovery about drifting (I knew next to nothing about it before watching this documentary). Very cool.
Looks like those cars required a lot of tuning before having the ideal drifting machine. It was a about a GTO vs several japanese champions. What about the E90 - have you guys tried drifting in it? |

Gonna be quite difficult without an LSD, imo...

That's an understatement
Difficult....I think impossible without LSD, and even then the power to weight ratio is a bit on the bad side to drift this thing, unless of course you put some tiny tires on the back! Besides, I was always taught that the point of racing was to keep as much traction as possible! Although it is important to learn how to control loss of traction too.

With the 335i, and traction/stability off, its not hard to have the car slide around a sharp corner or a round-about.

Don't drift an e92. If you want to drift get a 350z and tune it. Same cost as an e92, 10x better at drifting.

Drifting with a E90 (or what else BMW or RWD-car you drive) isn't that much difficult with or without LSD, It needs some practise, and the car does need some power. The only downside of having a car without a LSD that you will burn your tires much faster, so you have less fun with one set of tires. |

I don't know about the e90, but i used to be able to with my e46 330i, so you should be able to
it can be done with either a manual of a automatic, only difference is that you pop the clutch with a manual and it works better than on a auto i live, basically on the side of a mountain, so had lotsa downhill turns to play with. pretty much all you have to do is when your approaching a turn, slightly turn away from the turn and then cut back towards it hard right before the turn, take your foot off the accelerator as well, and hold your steering wheel in place, then immediately after you enter into the turn and you car starts turning, floor the accelerator. your front wheels should stay pointed towards the turn, while you back wheels slide out. and voila you drift around the corner, just remember to quickly counter steer after you come out of the corner it doesnt work as well with our cars as with a japanese car, and why would we want to? drifting was just something invented, imo, because their cars couldnt hold onto a corner or go around a corner as fast as german sports cars, and since they kept on losing control if they tried going fast around the corner, why not make it into something "meant" to be done? drifting makes you go around a corner a slower, it just takes attention away from how the car can't possibly go fast around a corner |

you DO NOT need power for drifting......actually this car is awesome for drifting, its not done often for the fact that tires cost an arm and a leg...with enough entry speed this car is a lot of fun for drifting....but this car is not meant for that, take it on a high speed course (nurburgring), thats where it really shines from the rest of the pack
