Poetic justice to smashed fender
Those with parking lot abused BMWs, take heart....
My wife came out of coffee shop last week only to find left front fender completely smashed in just behind the tire. A teenaged girl immediately approached her and said she had seen it all happen, that the driver who backed up, crushed and drove away was in the drive though line of the coffee shop!!!! My wife RAN across the lot, beat this Suburban's passenger window until the a&&hole opened it. Of course he denied and said he had to get to work. She told him it would be leaving the scene, had his license plate #, an eyewitness, etc. He got quiet real fast and had no choice but to stay until the police showed up. They measured his rear bumper, the point of impact on our car, took paint samples from his bumper and declared The whole mess moot, that it was his Suburban that did the damage. Yep, he's insured. Fender needed to be pried back to safely drive the car! Just sick of looking at it. You should see the double takes other drivers do. I know accidents happen, but the young girl said it almost looked deliberate as the guy had backed up so much farther than necessary to clear his parking spot. Anything I need to look out for in the estimate and repair? The fender is history, for certain. Doesn't look like door or hood are damaged, but there are deep scuffs on the front clip next to headlight pod. I don't have NAV, but do have BMW assist. Radio screen only shows "BMW Assist Activated" and can't be changed, but the radio, sirius, CD, etc. works perfectly. Thanks in advance for any info.

Thumbs-up to your wife
BMW ought to run diagnostics on the electronics to check for failures, so that radio thing should display normal later hopefully.

Sorry to hear about that, man.
Kudos to the girl who came and helped. He should be charged with Hit and Run already since he left the scene w/o leaving his contact on your car. Take it to the dealership and tell them to give you a qoute for everything that needs replacing. Best of luck, bro. |

Just mention to the dealership/repair shop to check everything. You should be ok. Sounds like it's all cosmetic, they'll order a new fender so it should look like new. I would just make sure that all the parts around the fender are ok too in terms of being scratched. If they are make sure that's covered under the repair too.

Justice indeed!!! (I am also a member (or should I say victim) of the "parking lot hit and run" club)

What a dickhead. Glad your wife got him. I agree that he should have been charged with hit and run - since that was clearly his intention. People who drive these huge SUVs and trucks are assholes, and most of them have no idea how to manuver them or park them.

Well at least finally someone got caught. I can't tell you how many times I wish I could have caught someone messing with my car. Luck was on your side that day. I hope all goes well and you get it fixed ASAP.

We need photos. sounds like the electronic is also bruised so that would have to be sorted out. Have you thought about getting a mtech bumper? this would be a good opportunity to get one. GL.
