Buy Canada - Advantage

If you buy BMW you get to pay for your own brake pads, wipers and more.

You also have the choice of our exclusive model 323i priced at the price of a 328i in America.

Finally, you should buy Canada because we wont charge you extra for the M sport package for the 328i or 335i, in fact, we don't even offer it.

Visit your local BMW store today and test drive your new underpriced BMW today.

Buy USA - Advantage

- Pay 6% Duty = $3000 on $50000 purchase

- Pay who knows how much to pass BMW Canada inspection to get a clearance letter

This works both ways, at the end BMW is the one who wins.

yeah but I can get a 335 under 50000, and inspection for clearance isn't actually that expensive. There is a guide around here I think. At 1 CAD to 1 USD, it's worth it in my opinion.

Further, even if resell value is killed in Canada, I can just sell it back in the states.

NOT true... all the inspections can now be done at Canadian tire. I had both the provincial and federal done for somewhere around $300 total.

With the dollar at parity you WILL save money buying from the states, no questions about it. Ask anyone that has, the only nay sayers are people that are too lazy too do it or just like too talk.

My buddy just bought a 2007 335i Coupe with 10k miles (16k Km) for $29,500. FULLY Loaded with every package. No accidents, clean title.

I agree with this, my buddy bought an M coupe (I think its an 03/04?) for just over $20K 2 years ago... Oh well! If you don't mind the hassle it's definitely worth it.

Is BMW still charging $1000 for the clearance letter? That was the cost back in 2008.

The US and Canadian packages and equipment levels are not the same, the gap narrows (somewhat) when you factor these in... for example, US spec 335's do not have leather, cold weather as part of the base packages, and if you have the Canadian M-SPort + Executive packages, you need to add a bunch of standalone options in the US Model to make it "equivalent", for example iPod/USB, Sat Radio, Alarm etc...
US Total is $50500, Canadian total is $58500.

Only a Canadian resident can get BMW finance rates (eg 1.9% over 60 months for 2010 models), plus the free scheduled maintenance is not available on US models imported into Canada, and you have $3000 in duty and lower resale value.

I'm not saying that there are no savings to be made, just saying that an apples-to-apples comparison reveals that the gap is much narrower.

I would suggest that the real bargains are to be found on used Z4's

This is what I was thinking. When I bought my car the last time the dollar hovered near par, I ended up buying Cdn over importing due to the better financing, free maintenance, etc. Factoring all this in the difference between the two alternatives was negligable. But all this can be thrown out the window if you do not need any sort of financing.

Or when buying used!
I purchased a US car last time we hot parity, it was a better deal back then since most automakers still had a 35% delta on MSRP's, now that has shrunk significantly, most car makers have 10-15% deltas

Then again, you can't expect the automakers to adjust their pricing every month either, or else we might as well use the US Dollar as our currency (god help us!)

what your saying is correct... the disparities in the used car market are much more substantial though.

For all the members who have purchased their vehicles in the US, did you purchase CPO or non-CPO? Did you buy from a BMW dealership, or any non-BMW dealership that you found a good price at?

I'm looking for an E92 right now, and I can't decide between CPO and non-CPO, as well as if I should buy from a BMW or non-BMW dealership. I would assume a CPO'd car from a BMW dealership would give a better piece of mind, no?

CPO does NOT transfer over to Canada... just the regular 4 year warranty.

It really depends on where you live man.. I live in 'almost delta' over in the BC area, it doesn't take me that long to get to the states to do all the service and stuff, besides I still get a courtesy car in the states. I don't care if warranty in the US does not transfer over to Canada, especially when Auto-west sucks balls in terms of service.

But each to his own, if someone lives further north, or even in Vancouver, I can see why they would opt to buy from Canada, but to me, no thank you.

Huh? I thought that CPO DOES transfer, and the only thing that doesn't transfer was the maintenance?

CPO does not transfer. Just original manufacturers warranty without maintenance.

Does that mean the CPO and scheduled maintenance is not transferred to the owner or does that just mean we would need to bring it to a U.S. dealership to get things repaired or replaced. Eg. If we crossed the border to a nearby U.S. dealer, would they honour the CPO??

Cpo..

I am picking my car this tues 335i o7. 4 year warranty is transferable and that is it. However, my car is for all sakes and purpose is CPO (meaning, it has been brought up to CPO standards) I am just not getting the extra two years. I know I am getting a quality car which is important to me and give me peace of mind.

The dealer was willing to negotiate with price, because I was not getting the extra two years....saved $1300.00. In the US, I can still take my car and get the free oil change, free wiper blades and brakes...added bonus up to 4 years.

I am in London, it takes me the same amount of time to get to Toronto and the Dealer in Michigan. So for me, no biggie. I don't know if I will drive all the way there for an oil change, but definitely for brakes.

most people in Canada who bought a car in Canada would want to justify their purchase (especially if they bought CPO or second hand). But really, there's just no way, otherwise BMW Canada doesn't need to advertise, "Buy Canada Advantage"

That is a good point, about saving the extra money on a CPO'd car without the CPO. I may go that route as well.

Besides the piece of mind that a CPO brings, is it actually worth it?
