spare tire question
Guys, i have a stupid question about spare tires. with my car set up being staggered does it makes sense to atleast have one 18 inch spare tire? if yes which one is preferrable? 225/20/18 or 255/35/18?
Thanks again! |

why would it make sense?
Did you increase the size of your brake calipers? Lower the car beyond good and evil? If not, staggered wheels have in my eyes NOTHING to do with the requirements on a spare wheel.... Plus, why don't you just drive runflats? The cost for an expensive 18" spare wheel sets off the higher cost on them easyly. Just read it again, I sound rude... sorry, no offense, just my German way of writing ;-)

225, since I swapped out of my runflats I will be carrying one of my 225 winters as a spare.

If you have a staggered setup, the rear tires being wider, any spare should be the same size as your fronts. In the case of 3 series with 18 inch wheels...that is 225/40-18.
That is what came as the BMW spare in my old E46 (2004 330i) with a staggered setup. Use a winter wheel/tire or check out tirerack.com for some decent wheels and tires for cheap, especially with the US=Cdn dollar exchange rate these days. |
