And in any where else in the world, I probably can't afford a car. Canada isn't that bad when you look outside the US market.

EXACTLY. We have 1/10th of the population of the U.S. Car prices in Canada are pretty reasonable when you compare to the rest of the World (excluding U.S.).

Oh definitely depends on what you do, but applicable everywhere in the world as well..Can you imagine..making 9000HKD(very good average figure for University grad) a month..and the M3 cost 1.3Million HKD? Almost anywhere else in the world you'd have to be a lawyer or the like to drive anything decent.
Sort of like saying, OMFG we have to pay so much income tax in Canada compared to HK...BUT they get 100% luxury tax on cars. There's compromises for everything. Disclaimer: I keep using HK because those are the only figures I'm absolutely sure of.

i lived in brazil for 12 years.. and not many people can afford a 320 for example... the taxing there is ridiculous.. imported cars get taxed 100% of the value... so the prices there double right off the bet... a 325 for example is around R$ 180k which is equal to CAD 102k ...
and for taxes... i find we don't pay that much compared to places like norway/sweden.. but that's just my personal experience ! |

How about getting the models closer to what the USA has?
Starting price of our budget 323i = $34,900 CAD Starting price of their regular 328i = 34,575 USD ..from the respective BMW website configurators. Last edited by dassub; 04-05-2010 at 08:44 PM.. |

Keep in mind that the US is only cheaper than Canada if you look at it from a Canadian perspective.
Americans don't get paid more simply because their currency is now worth less. $50k US represents the same to them, give or take, as when our dollar was worth $0.65 US, because in nominal terms their salary is worth about the same. In fact, many imported goods are likely more expensive in the US now because of the relative weakness of the US dollar. So many people frame this issue in terms of what a deal the Americans are getting, which simply isn't the case.

Now that we're at parity...its not like their purchasing power is less than ours; its actually still higher. Though yes, thanks to low interest rates they are playing a weak currency game. However I have more faith in their currency over the long term than ours. We tend to fluctuate nicely with the commodity cycle, which is all we have. Either way, like people said, it depends on what you do. Certain professions, procedural ones, medical ones, are much better off in the US than in Canada. |

Even on the LS 460, 7 series...the base models are less equipped. But thats a freedom I would like to have...I don't like heavily equipped cars, they malfunction after a while. Still, they have more purchasing power. Ie. C2S...or R8; keep it simple, there is still a 40 K difference between Can and US...no difference in features i blv. |
