man, i've been dealing with long cranks the past 2 months waiting for it to go out so i can install a JB3. I know how you feel. At the end of the day, still the best car for the buck, but it's like a beautiful traitorous ex-gf that you just can't shake.

you don't have to wait for the hpfp to go out. when mine gave me long cranks, i took it to the dealership and told them to replace it and they did because it's a known problem.

It will have to throw codes in order for the dealer to replace the hpfp. Now they have this bullshit program update they are required to perform before replacing the hpfp. For all we know, the update probably just has more ways to detect tuner codes.

Dealerships follow instructions from the BMW NA. The fairly original procedure which seems to be in vogue now is that in case of a complaint the car software is "upgraded" and the unlucky owner send away to see if the software patch has solved the problem. When the software "fix" fails to solve the problem, other steps are taken. This way, the owner will best experience the regard the company has always had for the customer. Obviously, when your pump was replaced, other instructions might have been in force.
