ICBC repair question
Someone vandalized my car in the Coquitlam area last week and I got a ICBC claim .
this A$$ threw a brick at it and some other cars were damage in the same lot. didn't catch him of course, hit and run 2 doors got small dents and scratches, the exterior chrome window + sill trims scratched a little. Wow, didn't expect the repair damage cost estimate is $2300. I heard some people say if your car repair over $2000 in BC, can bring down the future trade in or resell value, is this true or not? what are the pos and cos should I repair everything or just do the minimum paint job?

$2000 is the magic number between where you have to declare damage on the vehicle to the prospective buyer be it private or thru dealer. Back in the day $2000+ damage could be major. But now people can have $2000 damage with a bumper repair.
Now it more on what the damage is, not like u need to fix anything structurally. Is just paint and trim damage. End of the day is if u want it fixed back to original or band aid fix it I think ur options are different if leasing, but I could be wrong

If you leave some of the damage in then it will definitely decrease the resale value, because the buyer will see damage. I think as long as you can tell the buyer that it was just cosmetics, not structural or mechanical, then the repairs won't damage the value. There are shops that are flexible about pricing and quality of the repair as well. They can make it look good as new on the outside without the full cost of a 100% proper job.

Sorry to hear...
Yes - $2000 is the magic number; but I wouldn't worry about that now - getting the car back to its original condition is probably more important. Take photos of all the damages and get a copy of the work done from the bodyshop after. You can disclose them to the buyer when you sell the car - whenever that might be. Good luck

definately get it fixed to factory condition...you're driving a BMW, not an old beater that you just want spray-bombed or whatever.
yes, $2000 deductible will decrease your resale value, but i'm pretty sure it gets put into certain categories (yours will be vandalism rather than collision, so it looks much better on paper) and like stated already, take pictures to be able to show it to future buyers what was actually repaired. I'm pretty sure anything needing repair on a bmw is pretty close to that $2000 already.
