Small tear on Bead Area/Will it seal correctly?
I just bought these tires used and there is a small tear on the bead area. Will this cause a problem with the tire sealing properly? I got them shipped from a large used tire dealer and was told there was nothing wrong with them. It doesn't look like this is the area that seals against the rim but I want to be certain before I mount them.

There is this black tar looking stuff that tire places use to account for things like this..I had something slightly worst than that on my T1r and they applied the "black gunk" and I never had sealing issues.

If you have potholes in the streets like we do in NYC then your gonna have sealing issues......and I went very light on using the word pothole. I could have said crater, car swallower, rim smasher, debt hole...etc lol

Is the tear actually on the sealing area? The only place on the tire that has any evidence of touching the rim (based on marking) is around here (see arrow)

Usually, those tears are made when they remove the tire.
It was too tight, not enough lubricant, etc.. It's the side liner and the liner damaged (in part) that applies to the wheel for sealing purpose. If you drive very, very hard on curves, you could have a little issues, but I've never experienced it. And, like posted before, if the tire shop think that you may encounter some problems, they will use a product to seal part of it. If you ever get that tire off again, you need to advise the mechanic so he could take extre care not to destroy completely the tire. If it's too much, they won't mount it.
