Comments on what people think our N54 engines will look like/run like with tunes
I see a lot of ppl on this forum tuning their cars. I understand bmw designed a de-tuned 400hp motor set up. but i think they did this for a reason, than over engineering it for better reliability.
my car is stock from an engine perspective mostly because i've decided to keep this car for a long time (4-6 yrs). most of the n54 engines probably have not hit 100k kms mark yet so its hard to see. i want to JB3 2.0 my car, for daily driving and probably with no other mods (intake, exhaust, tracking application), just for a little boost as the current firmware on my car makes it slow and eats more gas . but i would like to start a discussion on what people think of our tuned n54 engines in the long run due to added boost and more tougher operating conditions in heat and other peripheral parts thay may or may not be designed for this much power output. please chime in with well though out hyphothesis on this and good reasoning behind it (technically if possible). looking to see what your thoughts are. |

To me it's all relative. If someone has a stock car and boosts the crap out of it 24/7 it will not last as long as a jb3 tuned car ahere the owner boosts up every so often. I strongly believe this engine will last just as long running 375hp as it does running a conservative 300hp. Over 400hp is where you will see the limits of the turbos (a lot more heat) and possibly the fuel system. Maintain your car, don't boost for long periods of time and you'll have a car that lasts as long as you want to.
