buying a 2007 335i coupe
Hi, I am getting close to buying a 2007 335i coupe for $27300 from Florida. I am in NY and planning to fly down and take it to the local BMW dealer for a quick check before signing the paper. What else should I look for? Will the dealer check to see if the car will qualify for CPO? Does the carfax looks fishy with 2 owners and 1 title change? Thanks.

That's a great deal, but so many 335 are modded I'd be scared to buy non-CPO. You're on the right track to have the dealer check it out even if it costs you a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for the comment. I didn't think of the fact that the car may have been modded and voided the warranty...good thinking.
I think the price is okay...not great. But I love the red interior. I also notice the car has been on the market for over a month. That's why I didn't think it is a great price. |

Car looks good from the pictures but I would be prepare to walk away if you feel that something might be wrong. Many mods are hard to detect unless you know what to look for. You can try to scan for code but I am sure the codes have been deleted. Search the forum under engine modification to educate yourself on the popular mods. This dealership is obviously not a BMW dealer so you will have to take the car to a BMW dealership to get it Certified. Good luck on the purchase. ask lots of questions and educated yourself on the mechnics of the car.

Yup...I have already made the appointment with the local BMW dealer and see if they would do a state inspection and possibility certified.
If the engine light isn't on, will the code shows with the scan? My neighbor has the engine code scanner, maybe I should borrow it. I should start reading about all possible engine mods. Thanks. |

I just called the bmw at West Palm Beach. They want to charge $350 to inspect the car. Is it reasonable? And they won't certify cars that are not from them.

you can actually! bmw now offers cpo for used bmws not sold by the bmw dealer, just gotta get it inspected. i hav a friend that works at a private dealer that is setting me up w/ CPO warranty on my 07 335 i purchased.
to cpo a bmw will cost somewhere btwn 1500-2000 usually. more if ur car has 1) anything that needs to be repaired mechanically 2) high miles i just did a quick google search and found this from car&driver: HOW MUCH DOES BMW CERTIFICATION COST? I test-drove a used BMW 335i that was not a CPO car and asked the salesman why the dealership hadn’t performed the certifi cation. He replied that the car could be certifi ed if I so desired, but it would add about $1500 to the price. Here’s where the costs were: The inspections to certify it require 10 hours of shop time, which runs about $1000 at a BMW store. Add the $500 or so that BMW charges the dealership for the additional warranty coverage, and there’s the $1500. But that extra price is contingent on the inspection not uncovering any further work needed on the car. This particular 335i was wearing new tires, but if they needed to be replaced, their cost (more than $1300 for a sport-package car) would have been tacked onto the $1500 fee. Likewise, add another grand for new brakes. So, on average, the extended warranty of a CPO model could cost the buyer $2000 or so. this is a pretty decent deal tho. i checked that website you linked for auto palms or whatever and looks like it's sold. is that u?? |

Yes, I put down a deposit already and will pick it up next week.
"The inspections to certify it require 10 hours of shop time".... When the lease was up for my 2001 330ci, I had my dealer CPO the car before I bought it back. The inspection process took less than 2 hours and $1100 for extra 2 year warranty. |

Hope you are not buying it from Braman. Tried to work a deal with them but they were less than customer service oriented. Especially the one in Miami. Ending up buying on from MA and having it shipped.

no...I am not trying to buy from Braman. It's funny, the more I talk to Braman about the check up, the more expensive it becomes. First they want to charge $200 for the check up, then when I mentioned it is a 335i, it increase to $250 - $300. Then I got an email saying $350 - $400 and it will be on the high side.
