Rear fog lamps... where are they?

I've seen the European spec rear fog lights mentioned alot, and I know you can buy the replacement switch to activate them for ~$150. What I don't understand is... where are these rear fogs? Are they already integrated into the rear brake/turn lamps?

Can someone enlighten (pun!) me?

The adaptive brake lights also function as the foglights.

They are the rectangular looking things on the tail lights. You can also mod your existing headlamp switch and activate the fog lamps that way.

Thanks guys.

In what situations would you use fog lamps pointing behind you? I can imagine reversing down a narrow drive at night it would be handy. Anything else?

They will help make your car more visible to others in bad weather conditions, ie fog, heavy rain, snow.

Growing up in Europe where every vehicle is required to have these, I can testify as to how irritating it is to be following behind somebody with these switched on during normal driving conditions!

Rear fogs are honestly one of the most useful mods. I use them on a daily basis for tailgaters. Its free and an easy DIY. Everyone i've done it for loves them.

Yep, I can see eher they'd be handy for getting a tailgater to back off.

Also when you've got a moron behind you who's blinding you with his high beams...

This may be in my future...

hmm... when its foggy or very rainy with limited visibility? you want people to see you, so they dont hit you? thought this was rather obvious.

this season i've been driving in some rains where i could only see 20-30 ft infront of me and barely the tops of cars... front fogs and rear fogs help people know where I am.

Thx for the offer -- I may take you up on it.

On your car, did you mod the U.S.-spec switch or install the European switch?

it's not as bright if you're car is lowered and you can't adjust the height.

I also modded my US switch, took me a couple tries but I perfected the piece. If anyone needs some help, I'd be happy to assist. I use my rear fogs all the time cause I've got a pretty hard drive way to back out of at night, I wish there was a way to make them brighter... anyone know of something I could do?

I cut a #2 pencil to legnth of the white plastic piece inside. Then I used double sided tape to attach a piece of an old credit card to push on the computer chip and turn on the lights. It will take a few tries to get the legnth of the stick perfect. I've done the install a few times so it goes by easily now.
