Question about Lease return
First time lease return owner....How does it work? Do you have to schedule your own inspection? How strict is it? Can you return the car at just any dealership? or does it have to be the one you leased it from? Sorry about the bombardment of questions..Any help would be much appreciated!

You will be contacted by the lease inspection company (Datascan -- I believe they do all of the Ontario inspections) to schedule an inspection. In my case the inspection was in January and I'm returning the car this Friday. BMW Financial Services will also mail you a lease inspection kit, which includes a description of acceptable / unacceptable damage.
My car was in pretty good shape (one ding on the hood, for which they are charging me $300) and generally the inspection was painless. After the inspection they give you a code you can use to log in to the Datascan site to view the details, including what you'll be charged for. You can elect to fix the damage yourself or return it as is and pay BMW. My inspection report shows that the summer wheels and tires were missing (had my winters on and the summers are in storage at the dealer), but once I return the car and have the dealer put the summers back on, they'll remove these charges. You can return the vehicle to any BMW dealer. They will check over the car to confirm there is no significant additional damage. Apparently they get a sales guy to go over the car with you, so I'm sure it's really just an excuse to try and get you into a new one.

If the car has unusual wear and tear, you are doomed. But if it's a few little scratches from regular stone chips, you should be fine. They check tire wear, mileage, mods and if everything works. You can return your car at any BMW dealer. |

just ask them to go to your house to do the inspection....you don't need to put the oem on, as long as you have the oem there for them to inspect, you should be fine.

I think I paid $800. Up to $7500 in damage allowed...

Might want to check the fine print on the insurance. Does it cover major dents in panels?
