Trying to Decide on Trunk Lid Spoiler

I'm seriously considering getting a spoiler for my car. At first I thought I'd just get the color-matched version, but now the carbon fiber one is starting to appeal to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or have pics they can share? Also, is this something that I can install myself, or would you recommend it be done professionally? Thanks.

I'm also getting prices from parts stores other than BMW, since theirs is kind of steep.... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Aftermarket spoiler may void your waranty......or at least, some dealer may try to tell you that!

Not true. They could only deny warranty work for something and in order to do that, they have to prove that the spoiler caused whatever problem is getting fixed.

I see what you're saying though. BMW warranties are nearly that touchy sometimes.

Painting required?!

I have decided on the carbon fiber spoiler. I do have another question, though. Does this spoiler need to be painted? I thought it was just installed as is, at least according to the photographs I've seen... but on BMW's accessories page, it says "painting required." Isn't that just for the regular spoiler? I'm planning to have it installed Wednesday 3/10... if anyone has any hints, thanks in advance!

I heard people taking out the DCI to avoid warranty problems, my SA told me that anything but chip tuning is ok. Word for word said "anything to do with air in/out is fine by me, intercoolers intakes and DPs are fine as long as the emissions laws dont get you"

edit: then again hopefully they dont get the last laugh

There's a thread in the general forum where a guy's dealership is denying warranty work of his transmission squeak due to an intake. It probably varies from dealer to dealer but just letting you know, the risk is still there.
