Mexican stand-off for an oil change

An interesting situation has arisen today. I'm due an oil change in the next few months and have been reading other posts re supplying my own oil and getting the stealer to complete said oil change, just using the oil I supplied. I have contact my local stealer today ( I wont name and shame at this point!) and explained the above situation. I was initally told that they will do the oil change using the oil I supply but will not stamp my service book. I informed them that the oil I supply will be BMW approved via opie oils, and I can't see what the problem is. Their reply was "its policy". I stated that it seems like they are throwing their teddy out of the pram and that other dealerships are happy to do it, plus my repeat custom to them maybe at risk.

The adviser went away and spoke to the service manager and the best offer they could come up with is they provide the oil, do the change as well as supply and change the filters and micro filters for £300 all in. If I had the oil change with my oil they'll charge me £60 plus the cost of the filters and micro filters at £120.00 inc VAT. The oil change by itself will cost me £224ish+ VAT.

The current situation is open ended at the moment as its not an immediate rush to get the oil change done, got 7000 miles to play with so not a burning problem.

Has anyone else experienced this type of reception?

Flapps.

I had an issue when I took my own oil for the running in service. I provided the proper stuff from Opie Oils too but they were trying to tell me that this was not the proper oil. As you can imaging I disagreed and they kept on saying it wasn't the right stuff. In the end I just said do you want to do the service or not, funnily they did it and stamped the book no probs.

They just hate losing out on a bit of profit, they wanted to charge £180 for the oil that I paid less than £90.

If i was you just call there bluff when the time comes, there are plenty on dealers who will do it.

Name and Shame !!

The only way they will change their policy is if people take their 'pride and joy' elsewhere for servicing - hit them in their pockets.

When i first explained what I want they mistakingly thought I wanted the 1200 running in service and as a result refused to even think about using anything other than their own oil! IMO its just soar grapes!

My dealer 'Coopers' in Chelmsford is actually very good for servicing though I am very specific on what I want done and how. I supply all my own parts and never an issue.

When I get an M3 it will go to PMW the Chelmsford Specialist and only to BMW if it has DCT and needs the latest software.

I do not believe it will effect it's value in anyway and anyone who knows anything about servicing will know it's far more thorough and friendly at PMW.

other dealers do this no problem

If they are going to be sore, maybe it wouldnt be such a bad thing that they loose your repeat custom.

Went to another stealer today and they will do the oil change using my oil no problem and stamp the book too, so thats were my pride and joy is going.

Stealer I initially went to was Wayside in Milton Keynes, so obviously not going back there in future.

Only "fly in the ointment" is that I looked at the rear tyres and both need changing.........

Does anyone know the cost of the 2year/15,000mile service yet? That's what I'll be due in the summer... only done 11,000miles so far though!

When I got my car, the 1,200 mile service was 'free'!

The running service was free then BMW changed it. Perhaps the dealer built it in to your purchase price
