325d - Evolved

Following a period of about 2 1/2 years of "shall I /shan't I", I finally bit the bullet and took my car down to Evolve last Saturday with the hope of them breathing new life into it!

Being the first car I have ever had remapped, I have to admit I was actually a bit nervous on getting it done.......but reasured by all of the reviews I had read on here of how good the service is, and how much it improves the car.

I opted for the Evolve Switch but also incorporated before and after dyno's. As mentioned before on this forum, the Switch process is pretty straight forward, and before long the car was on the dyno for a pre run. I have always had a problem with the car feeling kind of 'lazy' low down and having to work it quite hard to make progress, so was interested to see the results half expecting it to struggle to return the quoted 197hp. However, surprisingly it performed pretty well returning 220hp!!

So, 5 minutes later it was remapped and back on the dyno ready to roll! A couple of runs later and it had consistently returned 260hp and 385/390 lbFt!! Wooo!

Could wait to take it for a spin, as soon as it came of the dyno and the noise from the fan had stopped ringing in my ears(!), I hit that Start button...immediately sounded quieter and running smoother! Good sign. Took it for a quick spin and felt much more alive. I have to say I took it very careful to start with to get used to it but could feel it wanting to be pushed!

3 days later, and absolutely loving it! It now feels like the car I thought I had bought. It is sooo smooth, effortless, and feels like it wants to be booted all the time!!

A massive thank you to Imran and Sultan for their help and service (and for explaining everything as you went along!) If anyone is thinking of getting this done, do it! Dont wait like i did!

Dyno below

Thanks again guys!
Mark

Thanks, no mine is one of the 'rare' manuals! It makes it so much more driveable....

Nice review - glad you have made the Evolve jump

I am amazed at the standard output of your 325d, much higher than published figures....

Yes.......its suffering a bit at the moment!!
It is about 1mpg down on what it was previously showing...but as i dont have the iDrive, it doesnt get reset very often (and was sitting at 39.7mpg overall). I reset it on the way to Luton, and after 3 days it is now back up to a steady 38.7mpg.

I will continue to monitor and hope to see a slight increase.....

I chose manual also but like you say 'rare' and I enjoy using the box.
The more powerful engines suit the auto well so I have been told.

Sorry i meant that the remap makes it far more driveable, not being a manual! The auto box does suit the more powerful cars.

Well I have at last had my 325d Evolved now and can only agree with Mark.
What a difference!
It's now setting off the traction control when I hoof it in the lower gears! In the dry!

I have a measure from a standing start slightly uphill to a bridge (easy to see when reached as you pass under the shadow). Not sure of the distance but it is only for comparison anyway.

My Mondeo ST TDCi (Bluefinned) would pass under the bridge at 112mph.
My 325d as standard at 116mph.
My 325d Evolved at 122mph.
My E46 M3 at 132mph.
Astra SRi hire car at 102mph.

It responds so much better in any gear.

Really pleased. Thanks Imran.

Some of it may be down to the rolling road being a bit optimistic, but I think in general some of the 'official' beemer power outputs are often understated to keep the range 'in-line'.

If you look at the newer (late 2008 on) 3.0d (which officially is 245bhp) on the Bluefin website, it's actually 263bhp standard on the rolling road figures, and maps to 313bhp with the Bluefin map!! Evolve would probably see even better figures.

sounds optimistic as when you look on their site - the power curve for the 335d says 314HP
........... only one Bhp up on a 330d...........?????

Coming from a Skoda VRs that has 210/310lbs with a bluefin , The BM doesn't feel as aggressive as standard, I wouldn't say it felt slower its just so refined in the way it pulls itself down the motorway.

My 325d didn't feel slow but I can only think of lethargic to describe it.
Once Evolved it feels exactly how I would expect a 3 litre diesel to.
My only regret with the remap is that I didn't do it sooner (same with switching to non run flats).
