Z4 Performance Mods in Progress

Okay - my wife wanted the Eisenmann Race 2x90mm exhaust. Then we looked at a few more mods and this is what she ordered: ESS Stage 1 or 2 tune; Stett Performance cold air intake; Stett Performance charge pipe with diverter valves; and Stett Performance intercooler. Yes, she really wanted the intercooler and "the quickest e89 in North America" - she loves her Z4 and is kind of aggressive (that makes me a very happy man). The mods are happening now in Plano, Texas: the exhaust, charge pipe, and cold air are all on as of today - now it is on to the ESS tune and custom intercooler fit (this will be the first non 335i fit they have done). The intercooler simply needs some pipe/tube fabrication that is a little different from the 335i, then the pieces will be powder coated and we will pick it up a week from now - pictures to follow.

Throw in some pics of your wife in the car. That wouldn't be boring.
No disrespect intended.

For the strett intercooler...have any idea if they will be selling it for the z4 or is your wife's car the mock up for their already existing intercooler. I wouldn't mind upgrading in the near future.

Wow nice! Exactly what I had planned for my Z4 minus the BOV - I fear I will go crazy hearing the BOV sound on every shift or what not. Guess that is a sign I am getting older and like my peace n quiet

Do keep us updated on this build!

I agree 100% - NO BOV - this is the dual diverter, which is similar to the stock charge pipe's opertaion with no sound, so we will not go crazy with constant BOV noise; this new pipe is just much higher quality with better seals for no leakage in the future.

YES YES YES - once this intercooler is done, a kit will be made and sold by Stett Performance for other Z4s with N54 power - give them a call and talk to Carson or Chad - great guys

update - the exhaust, cold air, and dual diverter valve charge pipe are now on the car; the cold air took a little longer than they thought because it was quite a bit different than the 335i layout

the FMIC mods are happening now along with the ESS tune; I was told that they are still on track for delivery this Saturday; in addition, pics are being taken for posting this weekend

anyway, the Stett Performance charge pipe, cold air, and FMIC will then be available to all as mod parts for the Z4 35i - my wife is really excited about this and the FMIC plumbing is going out to be powder coated tomorrow; she is ready to burn some unsuspecting "sports" cars

Thanks ESS - I know the tune will be an awesome centerpiece to these mods.
Ask for Carson or Chad (I receive no benefit from this referral - just your happiness with awesome mods for an awesome car):

godius, as ESS says above - a bunch of power from the tune with about 60-70 whp and about the same amount of torque (I do not want to exceed the DCT limits). If you read the ESS website they recommend Stage 2 if you are doing exhaust and intake mods, which we are with the Stett Cold Air Intake and Eisenmann 2x90 Race Exhaust from Project 808 (thanks Anup, info@project-808.com). Then, we went ahead and threw in the FMIC from Stett because my lovely wife thought it would be really cool (no pun intended). So, we will drive it soon and give you the seat dyno, but I am sure it will be strong and reliable. We considered methanol injection but I decided against it simply because the reservoir tank would have to go in the trunk; plus, it does not need more power at this point. Some may disagree, but by adding the FMIC and Eisenmann exhaust we are trying to do the "responsible" tune in keeping the intake temps down for the turbos' life and keep heat from building up in the engine with Eisenmann race exhaust - it has been explained to me in detail that this is a good decision for long term reliability. Besides, the exhaust will sound great.

godius - cost request above answered:

The exhaust was about $3,100 with shipping "included" from Project 808. This is the big ticket item but for us, well worth it. The rest of the prices are on Stett's website, plus the ESS tune of about $700, plus some minor amounts added for labor to install all items. This is where I am getting the best deal since my wife's car is the test mule for the Cold Air and FMIC - Stett is giving me a great deal on labor. So, I think the total will be about $6,000, which includes everything (installation labor, exhaust, FMIC, Cold Air Intake, Charge Pipe w/diverters, and ESS Stage 2 tune). You could go a lot cheaper and still have great performance by axing the exhaust and FMIC. I just went a little out of control in a quest to over indulge my wife.
