JB3 install and adaptation.

Hey guys about to start my jb3 install (like 10 mins). My question is i'm planning on taking the car out and running it semi hard later tonight. Will this be a problem? I heard you need to go easy for a little while to let the car adapt? Worse case can't i just set it to map 0? Thanks just don't want to mess anything up

Just pick your map per the guide and go for it.

I always heard that the harder you beat on it the quicker it adapts.

The first day I installed my tune, I had a lead foot right from the begining. Oh, memories.

Not to thread jack, I *just* got in from installing it. Was going to post the same question-- good to know.

Unfortunately I opened up the garage door after finishing the install to find it had snowed more and everything is frozen over!!

start on map 3, then 5, then 7 (assuming you get 93+ fuel for maps 5,7)

Same thing happened to me. Got it installed "just" in time to drive out and park it in a hanger for the snow. Got 8inches so haven't even touched it since then. Throwing around a tahoe just isn't as fun

If you take it out and do a bunch of WOT runs in it right away it ca help it adapt faster but the full relearn can take a couple of days for the part throttle and full throttle to get fully in sync.

Usually not a good idea, some people do without problems though. If you do make sure you have that BT handy

Is there a noticeable difference between map 3 and 5? I'd rather have a bit of a safety net, even though I always run 93 octane.

I would recommend that anybody who runs a tune (on any map) should have the ability to read and clear codes. You can never be sure that you won't throw codes. Codes can be thrown when installing or removing your tune imperfectly regardless of the maps. Besides, it is nice to be able to diagnose problems being that BMWs are not always reliable...fuel pumps, VANOS, injectors, etc...

If you are going to tempt fate, be prepared with knowledge.

I got a normal OBDII reader I bought from Autozone. The orange one. It works great on removing codes on all the cars I used it for. When you guys says throws code, do you mean codes only given when you CEL light comes on? Or are there actual hidden tuner codes that can be triggered and not cause a CEL light than only bmw can see when you bring the car in? Please let me know
