My car is falling apart!

What is the deal with these cars. Since I bought this car I had the fuel pump replaced at 2000 miles. I then had the Dinan tune installed right after the fuel pump was replaced and had pretty good luck up until recently. At around 24000 miles I had Injector 1 fail. BMW replaced injector and plug. At 25000 miles injector 5 failed. BMW replaced injectors and plugs 4, 5, and 6. The most recent was this past week. 26,000 miles I go to merge onto the freeway and I go into limp mode. Take the car into the dealer. They tell me I threw boost related codes and they could not replicate it. They upgraded my software to 36.1 re-installed my Dinan and sent me on my way. Two days later I get another limp mode. Took the car back to BMW which is were it is right now. They said it threw the same boost related codes and after running some tests they are going to replace both of the turbos. They think there is problems with the wastegate actuators.

The the amount of money we spend on these cars there should not be this many problems with it. I had a 2001 Cobra with an aftermarket supercharger on it for over 6 years and never experienced the amount of problems that I have with this car with just 26,000 miles on it. I am seriously considering getting another car if I keep running into these problems. I've driven more 328i loaner cars this month than I have my own car. Does anyone else think this is unacceptable for a car to have this many problems for what we paid for it?

Sorry for the rant. I think I just needed to vent.

No car is perfect. Maybe it was just your luck that you "picked the wrong one." I had that same problem with my last car. It sat at the dealer for repairs longer then I have owned it. Sorry, I feel your pain. Maybe if it happens enough, they might buy it back under the lemon law?

Thats my next step is to look at the lemon law conditions in case I decide to go that route.

I picked up a cpo last year with low mileage(about 18K). I have never been to BMW as much as I have in the past 4-5 months. I just think BMWs are made this way. Don't own one out of warranty, though.

It appears HPFP and injector failures go hand in hand. Perhaps caused by contaminations clogging them (the injectors)?

65.000 km never had an issue. Stage 3 car. Every car is different and the fuel quality in the US is causing most of the HPFP issues.

What Enrita said, the fuel is causing lots of issues but there are some inherent weak points in the engine (that they are no doubt resolving with the N55) that unfortunately plague a few unlucky owners.

After your dealer replaces both turbos, all the injectors, all the sparkplugs and the HPFP with the new part number that just came out, I think you will be out of trouble....

I hear stories like this all the time. I have a few friends that work at BMW dealerships and they tell me about stuff like this all the time.

Things like that are why im cross shopping and not dead set on getting a 335i when i buy my next car at the end of the year.

Spend more time on this forum and I'm sure you'll end up purchasing one. With the evident problems the 335 has had, personally, it did not deter me from purchasing one by any means. The car is solid, roll the dice and pray you have a trouble free N54!

I'm on the same page as the OP.

About 24,000 miles - not even two years old:

New Turbos
New Waterpump
New HPFP
Flaky Intake TMAP sensor

Can't seem to run a tune anymore without getting boost oscillation of some sort - even on the current V4 platform.....I think either the diverter valves or my wastegate solenoids are next on the replacement list.

Boost holds just fine - so it's not a leak, but my wastegate duty cycles go up and down like crazy during the oscillations.

I am losing faith in this platform's reliability.....definitely will not trust it outside of warranty.

Yeah its unacceptable, but as others have said its the ethanol rich gas here in the US. You dont hear of the problems nearly as much in Canada and Europe. I should be getting my car back today with 6 new injectors/coils and I am going to make a point to seek out some of this "Top Tier Gas", if only as an experiment. Of course all of those stations are among the most expensive in my area, but it beats a 328 loaner - or the Kia loaner I was stuck with last time.

If you're on the fence about getting a 335 or something else, DON'T drive one, you will never want a lesser car, its highly addicting.

I think BMW's service dept at my dealer is really skimping on servicing the 3 series and 1 series cars. I remember when I had a 5 series, I was treated much better.

i feel your pain op. my 08 e90 has 14k miles on it and is in the shop all the time. i went into limp mode tons of times, no hpfp failure yet. i also have issues with the active steering and dsc. just had low pressure fuel sensor replaced and had a jammed intake vanos. had problems with cam bearing ledges and had them replaced. dropping it off again tonight for the active steering problem. i still love this car even though i have to put up with all the bs. the thing that really sucks is that i bought this car from a dealership thats almost two hours from my house, i go to a local place for service and they never want to give me a loaner.

I'm feeling the OPs pain right now, my car is back at the dealer for the second time in as many days. Took it for stuttering, and limped once.. they said it wasn't the fuel pump. Today on the highway, went completely limp, and threw 50,000 fuel pressure codes.. lol

Let's see this time ... crap
