Piggyback chip mod resale value- why so cheap?

I've searched this and other forums and have learned a lot about Xede, PROcede and other chip mods. However, I'm seeing these units for sale used in the $100-200 range. Am I missing something- why is the resale so low?

I'm not encouraging anyone to buy from anyone but sponsors of this forum, so please no flame war. I'm simply wondering what information content there is in these low resale values, just as I'd have questions if I saw year old 335i's having a 10-15% resale value.

I'm considering an Xede for $100, for example. Am I missing something or would this be a great deal in terms of bang for buck? Has anyone else here gone for a used piggyback chip mod?

What your seeing is the old versions of the tune, and they basically don't work with the new features that are out today....

Why are you considering Xede? I'm sure there are about 1000 people here that could give you decent reasons not to go that route.

Thats why demand is so low, and the price follows demand down.

I don't think you'll find a PROcede Rev.2 CANbus for less than $700-800, if at all.

JB3 and procedes go for cheap because they are past generations. The xede goes for cheap because it sucks along with the AA processor. SSTTs are remarkably overpriced to begin with so their cheap. New versions of JB3 and Procede both hold their value well along with the JB+.

very true.

sell it while it's a current model, and you'll get most your money back.

Or you can just buy the JB3 new for 579 or the JB+ for a bit over 200.

One of the selling points of purchasing a piggyback is that you can sell it afterwards where as you can't sell a flash.
But, how much are you really going to get for an outdated piggy?
For those who purchased their procede V1 for 1300 bucks, how much can you get for it these days?
Maybe resale value shouldn't be a part of the equation. That's just my thoughts.

It may not be worth what you bought it for when it becomes outdated, but its still worth something.

I'm not against flashes though and I wouldn't choose a tune based on whether its a flash or a piggy and whether I can get money back in the end. The biggest separation of the two in my eyes is the current map switching ability and constant updates to piggys.

Actually you can get a new JB3 pin out for only $349, with the latest G3 hardware. As more of these cars are falling out of warranty, the pin out model is gaining popularity. Install once and forget about it. I've been selling a ton of them lately.

If you buy any tune without first driving a Rev.2 Procede with v4 maps, you'll kick yourself later

Marketing much?

Same goes for buying a tune before experiencing JB3 2.0 beta!

Can't expect to get all your money back for a used/old product. Pricing for tunes are pretty stable as I've seen it.

My Procede is worth more now than what i bought it for almost a year ago. All i had to do was pay 10 bucks for the canbus wires .
