Pink marking/paint found on ecu slider??? Help

Hey everyone,

I just got my jb3 in the mail and began unearthing the ecu box. Upon looking at the sliders and subsequently removing the one. I noticed this pink marking/paint substance. I was careful not to smudge or smear it. So is this BMW's security for ECU tampering?

My cars an early 08 fyi

maybe the previous owner if the car was bought used was a girl installing a tune but not realizing her nails were still wet and brushed against the slider?

Nope, I've been inside an 08 and 09 ECU box and have not seen anything like that.

Why would BMW do that neway. It's our car. If I wanna break open the ECU box it does not imply any tampering. Maybe curiousity.

Any of the n54 gurus on here? Ive seen threads like this in the past where BMW put paint or something like that on the ecu slider to tell if it has been opened.

I had the jackasses at the dealership do the same thing to me. I just played their own game, found what type of tamper proof paint they used and bought it. So i reseal and be done with it. I havent had to reseal and am done with dealerships so it doesnt matter but i was prepared just in case.

They put a little green swipe of it on my oil filter housing so that I can't play with that. Whatever. I just line it back up when I change the oil. I haven't had a problem with dealerships yet.

I don't see how the marking on your slider has anything to do with tamper protection. If it was meant for that it would be marked in the areas that I marked with red circles. That way they can tell if the slider has been moved.

That's meant to be there to help you know the filter is screwed on.

+1 The location on the OP's pic makes little sense to me. The grabhandle is painted and that doesn't mate with any adjacent surface to seal to. How can you break a seal that doesn't exist??
