For those with catted pipes & SES/CEL light

I mentioned this in passing to a local member, but thought it might warrant mentioning here ......

Background:

Last Summer I purchased & installed the AR Design catted downpipes & couldn't be happier with the performance, workmanship & overall product. My car currently has the Dinan flash. Within a couple of weeks after install; the CEL began showing & eventually stayed on with each startup.

I installed a BMS O2 sim & cleared the codes. All was well for another 2 weeks. The SES light would then come & go, but never caused any problems with regard to the runnability of the car (never a problem while the CEL was on either).

Okay, recently the sw was updated on the car (had original pre 29.1 sw)by my local BMW dealer. The SES light was showing at the time of install and the downpipes remained installed. Since the update nearly a month ago there have been no reoccurrences of the SES or CEL showing ...... at all. Seems the update is all that was needed.

Thought this might be helpful for the handful here who have the catted pipes & have experienced the same problem(s). I know it isn't limited to the tune or the downpipe mfg as I know of a couple JB3 tunes & a catted RR equipped car experiencing the same problems.

Thought this would be helpful ........

Great info..

I am a little closer to solving my SES lights.. now I don't get the 2C31 or 2C6C codes so far, just 2F94 & 2F95 codes for cat inf codes.. so a more adjustment on the BMS V3 O2 sims and I think its solved for me..

So with the new software, you do not need a sim?

I left the sim in place ....... never removed it from the car. Not sure if it's still needed or not. ............ really don't want to remove it to find out either since the car is running so well now.

We are working on sourcing a new catalyst that will avoid these CELs on newer N54s as an option for customers.... Most early cars like mine had no CEL issues with the current cats, but the new software is getting INSANE.....
