If I thought I'd be covered on my insurance I'd go there, but I don't think that's the case. And if I ring them up and say' hey, do you cover a trip to the 'Ring?' I think they'd say no

You might be right! does anyone know how much it is to cover? and is the ring classed as a road or track? as they have Buses on there giving tourists the tour!!!

Yes, I know that technically it's a 'one way toll road', so technically I'd be covered...

I think it would be unwise to put that to the test. All policies that I have seen include specific exclusions for Rallies Competitions and Speed Trials. They'd get you on the last one.

The old "I was just enjoying a leisurely drive through Germany, took a wrong turn, some guy asked me for some money to drive on his road, I paid and found everyone zooming past me" would carry little weight, I'm afraid.

Technically it's a 'de-restricted toll road' which is the key part that invalidates most peoples insurance. :-(

If you do all decide to go, then the below site is extremely useful for all things Nurburgring

http://nurburgring.org.uk/

It tells you all about rules, insurance, what to expect when you get there and gives opening times (the ring is not always open to the public at weekends) and lots of useful advice.

Cheers

I have been twice and ES-Jet came along with me back in august. You will not find any insurance compny to cover the ring and i would suggest you don't tell your insurance where you are going!!

It is very very challenging, but do not try and time yourself and think you are the next Sabine. There will be cars with much less power than your cars that will kick your backside, don't take them on, just enjoy yourselves and take in the experiance.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident then you are charged for every meter of armco you squash!!

The ring is brilliant. I will be going back at the end of april next year. The weather pre april is normally bad, usually involving snow.

IMHO it is the mecca for all lovers of the BMW roundall

Some pics of my last trip with ES :rocks:

Anything can be insured - you just need to go to a broker rather than one of the bog standard insurance companies.

I would suggest starting with someone like Aon:

http://www.aon.com/uk/en/

Or Tysers:

http://www.tyseruk.co.uk/

The Ring is fantastic! Want to try the e90 round there so badly. Last time I was there I was on my GSXR, fell off and squashed my backside...no armco though lol

Depending on time: I'll go!

I take my hat off to anyone who will ride a bike around the 'Ring.
In a car it feels dangerous, but on a bike

You're a better man than me
