Exclamation OEM Wheels

I don't want steelies for Winter. I've also been told that steelies do not fit xDrive E9X...?

I want a good looking Winter set-up that will perform as I do more driving (distance wise) in the Winter (Snowboarder).

I've been thinking of the following wheels for my E91 (Coming Soon):

Style 158

Style 159

Style 160

*All info stolen from:
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...browse/wheels/

Do you know of a Canadian retailer, other than the dealer, where I could purchase any of these wheels from, without suffering Duty when importing from the States?

I'll sort out tires later... Likely some Bridestone LM-22/25 RFT's.
(I know, RFT's aren't for everyone, opinions aside...)

Those will be a pain to clean.

Generally for me I would get rims with less spokes. M6 rep rims would be best for winter (huge gaps between spokes, making it easier to clean).

But I like the 3rd style you got there.

True, but it also means that, the brake disk area will be affected more in snow. Is that a disadvantage?

Style 160 is what comes with the E91.
I purchased the Sport Package which comes with a staggered 17" set, different to them, 10 spokes... which I can't find an image of yet.

Cleaning doesn't bother me.

Brakes are hot... no worries with snow there.

Any idea's where to buy Canadian?

FYI, there is no duty on wheels when purchased from the USA. There is duty on the tires though.

I bought a set of wheels/tires from the Tirerack. No one would ever know that they aren't OEM wheels and I have BMW centercaps for them. They look good I think for winter.

158 and 159 are both nice... I don't think there are reps available... so you may want to see if anyone is selling their set.

OP: would you consider replicas, say 17" 162s ET34?

To the Regulars: anybody have RFTs mounted on replicas? maybe you can share your comments on how that worked-out for you...

below: 17" rep 162 on 328xi sedan [sourced from allen@simpytire]

get replica rims for the winter, and as another member suggested, the less spokes the better. Generally, see what you get the best value for, they are just winter rims after all and will go though alot of abuse... I am running the m6 reps with non-rfts

I have 162 rep rims with my Wintersport Dunlop M3 RF for my 335i xDrive got it from Steelecase, breaking is not an issue but I found the tires are pretty noisy compare with my all season stock tires.

Interested to know as well. Do you need TPMS on these wheels?

There is duty for items that are not made in a NAFTA country. This applies to both wheels and tires. When you buy from Tirerack they charge duty for applicable items up front.

Instead of trying to find OEM center caps that fit, you can get BMW logo stickers from eBay to make them look real. Some of those stickers are made of aluminum discs and they are very good quality.

BTW, I use Dunlop M3 ROF on my E93 and I do not notice any noise issue. They are decent winter tires and I had them on my 530Xi before. For my new Benz 4Matic I use Dunlop 3D which is a next generation M3. Will see how they perform this winter.

Check the offset on this style carefully. IIRC, 1 series have ET47. xDrive E90s easily accepts ET34 for 17x8 rim sizes (like in previous photo)

btw, forgot to mention that replica center caps were included in the package as well.

I had my wheels and tires shipped to my drop box company in Washington. When I brought them over, there was only duty on the tires as we have a tire manufacturing industry in Canada. There is no wheel manufacturing industry in Canada, therefore, no duty on the wheels.

Mine came with the appropriate BMW centercaps with the shipment.

I like your wheels. I know wheels with more spokes are tougher to clean, but in the winter, it also means a greater chance for snow and ice to get trapped inside the wheel. When that happens we know what happens when you drive on the highway...annoying vibrations and seems your car is unbalanced....

i've never had issues like that before.
if the wheels have snow and ice buildup, i'll bang it free before moving.

hopefully the sale goes through, it's almost too good of a deal to be true.
let y'all know Wed's night.
