Solo II Autocross: BMW CCA LA

BMW CCA, Los Angeles Chapter
AUTOCROSS/Solo II

For those of you not familiar with SCCA Solo II, Autocross is an event that most street legal vehicles can compete in. This is a timed event in which a driver's vehicle is categorized into a specific class based on make, model, year, and modifications. As this is a "Solo" event, vehicles are sent out one-at-a-time on a course marked with pylons and chalk, and compete with other vehicles in the same class. There is never any side-by-side simultaneous racing of cars at any given time (except in the case of Pro-Solo).

I have found that the two most important factors in improving course times are (1) driver's skill, (2) sticky tires. In many events, it is helpful to walk the course before heats are run to familiarize yourself with the course. In the case of soft, sticky tires, this is where things can start getting a little expensive, but if you've never done this before, it might be fun to give it a try.

Are you going to do it, Michael? I have done it once with my '03 330ZHP which I got 2nd in M Stock class. Maybe it might be fun to do it in E90. However, I am going to Street of Willow this Friday if you are interest to join. It is $120/day for a track day.
