Hei man, nice to see other people from Switzerland - the European forums here are quite dead
So you're waiting for an E92 right? I wonder - how much off MSRP did you manage to get? I'm ordering mine next week!

cool I see there ARE people from Switzerland here So I'll take to oppurtunity to ask you a question, as someone who's new to Switzerland:
I was just about to buy an E92 330xi with modest options (Sport seats, Radio prof., HiFi, 4AD) - and what do I see?
the price difference to a 335i is only CHF 900.-, and it comes with the sport seats as standard. The sport seats cost also 900.-. SO effectively, the 330xi costs exactly the same as 335i. And 335i comes with better tires and with the option to upgrade to 18" (style 189) for only 900.- more.

What do do??

Is the x-drive so important in Switzerland? Will I be able to manage with the RWD with snow tires? How bad are winters in the Zurich area?

Now, you're ruining my reputation as a lurker

I'd get the 335i for the following reasons:

- hardly snows in the city or road services are readily available unless you live in the mountain areas or suburbs
- I ski a lot and go up the mountains with the winter tires and no problem
- lesser on gas and tire consumption (I drove a 4WD before)
- with dsc/ dtc/ abs/ etc... BMW is very safe
- you're required by law to put on winter tires anyway

Ever thought of considering the 335d? Tons of powa there.
Good luck on your choice anyway.

The BMW ix models are pretty popular here. Not only for snow reason, but starting November to February, the roads are frozen in the morning. Even in larger city like Zurich, the public services aren't always putting salt on the street.
But for me, the E92 is a sport cars, and sports car dont need 4wheel driving.
I would defenetly choose the 335i before a 330ix.

I will get my E92 325i (in the US328i???) in the end of November .... Cant wait to get it

Sorry for ruining your reputation Tykes
I do live in the suburbs (up a small mountain in Adliswil). The neighbors here all say that I should get the xi, but I'm not sure how much they really understand about driving - that's why I ask you guys

if you go skiing, drive up and down the mountains in snow time, and you say it's ok - that's a strong argument right there.

The 335d comes only with automatic transmission, so not an option for me.

btw. I just drove an hour with a crappy rented car and got photographed TWICE driving 55 km/h instead of 50 - that REALLY kills the mood for having a sport car here

yes I'm with you here, it's definitly not a family car that has to be super-safe, it IS a sport car that was born to be RWD. My hesitation is only because that's the first time I'm in a snowy country, and I don't have the skills to drive in snow (yet!).
So yes, you can say I have this fear from the unknown which is snow driving

Wow man congrats !! End of November is like what, 6 weeks! do you manage to sleep well at night?

the 328 they have in the US has the same base engine as we have here for the 330, but it's de-tuned to be around 250hp instead of the 272hp of our 330

Congrats Bleem !! on your E92 You should savour the waiting moments coz when the car comes you'll simply be reminicising on em. For me it was agonizing yet fun. It's a mental game you know ... at least you know it'll be a sweet ending

Same here caught driving 59 km on a 50km zone. Normally there is 10% speed allowance so I was penalized only for driving 4km beyond the allowable limit and cha-ching! Sfr. 40.00. Let's hope it does not happen often.

FYI, police in the Vaud region are adding 21 speed radars along the highway (in both directions) this month. Man! thats a radar every 5 km from Geneva to Lausanne (about 70 km distance) !!! Link below is in French though.

You name it! There was an interesting article in a car magazine last month about the most expensive speeding-fines in the world. After the nordic countrys, Switzerland was on second place:mad:

I'm almost flashed once a month ('m driving also a lot motorbike)! I'm already that far, that at the beginning of each month, I calculate the approximate amount I will have to pay to mother state ... It's soooo ridiculous

LOL
well at least our income tax is low, let's see that as additional "fun tax" we have to pay

Guys I wanted to thank you, you helped me made up my mind and I'm just back from the dealer, ordered the 335i :rocks: !!
I took one for a short test drive, they had only automatic test car, so that's only the tip of the iceberg of what I'm gonna get: A ROCKET!!
Now, THE WAIT................
