Quick question regarding steering wheel swap (non-sport to M-tech)

So I finally was able to hunt down all the parts required for my M-tech steering wheel upgrade. I have the non-sport one on my car right now and I was looking at the DIY and I was just wondering if I am simply able to take off the complete non-sport steering wheel and place on the fully assembled M-tech steering wheel. If not, that's okay, just thought I'd make sure before I got started on disassembling the non-sport. Thanks.

You should be able to...don't forget you need the sport airbag, the standard airbag doesn't fit the M-Sport wheel

how are you going to bolt it on if the airbag is on and its fully assembled? Its not possible.

I just did my swap last night, even though i'm not a DIY guy, it only took me about 30~40mins to get it done

easy! soooo happy with m-tech, so much better than stock Good luck

The non-sport airbag is a little tricky to pop out... but if you have the right tools.

There's a good DIY in the forum that you should read, and make sure you disconnect your battery before doing the swap.

I'm having a little trouble disconnecting the battery right now. I've seen the pictures on the forum and my battery seems to be different. I'll take a pic right now and show you guys.

It was really quick and easy. one of the best mods I think I could of done.
heres a quick pic...
going from non sport to msport wheel is a big jump, makes me want to drive faster all the time... haha

and your battery is setup the same way. once you get the nut off of that screw that is holding the negative end down just wiggle it back and forth till it gets loose and comes off. I had a little trouble with that at first and didn't want to pull it too hard.

Yeah, after loosening the clamp the terminal came right off. Here's the final pic.

Sport/Mtech wheel with airbag bracket
Sport Airbag
Trim piece
Multi function buttons and harness

yepp all this is correct.
and a suggestion if you're looking to do this mod and save some cash is to look in the 1addicts forum for anyone selling their msport wheel (the 135 with m package comes with the wheel and some people upgrade to different wheels. I actually got 2 offers within a week from the 1addicts guys) Besides that you never know, I got lucky on some parts. and some I had to order new from Tischer bmw.
it was either this or a drop for me right now. And I'm glad I went with the wheel!

I had to get two saucer-head screws for my swap, not many people mention it and I couldn't find the screws in my old standard steering wheel. So if you are going from the skinny non-zsp steering wheel to any sport steering wheel, you'll need two saucer-head screws. Best of luck!

P.S - If you are patient then I suggest browsing E90post, 1addicts, M3post and Ebay for parts. I did this and I saved myself a lot of money. If you don't have the patience (it took me 2.5months to track down all the parts and wait for shipping) then just go to the Interior Parts sub-forum and browse there. There are currently two wheels and many many parts at good prices up for grabs.
