What Are HD, RDS, and PTY Settings?

I noticed when I turned off "HD," I stopped experiencing the varying volume issue on the radio. What are these for?

I never have that issue when playing CDs or from my iPod. My S-Vol is on "1".

Thanks!

You probably were listening to an HD Radio station and losing the digital signal, dropping back to analog?

I don't know, I lack HD Radio...

RDS = Radio Data Service
PTY = Program Type

Google and Wikipedia are still your friends...

That volume isssue is coming from the HD Radio tuner reception, as it's switching from digital to analog to keep the channel "on" if it encounters HD reception disconnects.

What I have noticed is that there is no RDS/song info when HD Radio is enabled; it is the same thing with my VW Passat navigation.

Lol, thanks...so is the manual, apparently. I turned HD radio off and no problems. It doesn't sound much better anyway. Sounds worse with the switching from analog to digital.
