Would you do it all over again?
Hello everyone.
Like many of you, I am torn as I consider my next car purchase. Currently, I drive a 2008 Audi TT 2.0FSI and love it to bits . . .but...i don't want FWD and I (sort of) need usable back seats. So...I'm torn...between the 335 vs the S5. If I go S5, I will wait for the 3.0 supercharged engine, making the two cars even more comparable. HELP! Would you buy your 335 all over again if you faced this choice today? Why? Why not? For the Audi, I love: styling interior performance more than adequate indifferent to Quattro because it never snows here, and I don't race in the wet (or the dry either, haha!) For BMW it's growing on me, it's certainly a lot 'leaner' looking than the beefy S5 handling and feel But I'm pretty indifferent to the styling ,especially the interior where I think the Audi really has it beat. I'm not too worried about the fuel pump issues. (My DSG had the mechatronics problem that is well-known. But truly fixed now.) But I just can't put my finger on which car I truly want. Thoughts? |

The cars are really close in every aspect. This is gonna come down to personal taste. Which car do you want to see everyday? If you saw the other car at a redlight would you be jealous?
The s5 to me, looks like its trying to hard. That enormous front grille and huge black plastic fog grille things look awful. The 335 is sleek. The audi is not. Also, check the different vendors and get an idea of the mods. See what the modders and tuners are doing with their cars, so you can get an idea of what you could do to yours. 335 is cheaper btw. I dont think that the s5 has the performance to back up its high price.

Thanks!
Thanks for the post...just to add a few more comments.
As for mods, both BMW and Audi are super-hard ass about mods. I wanted to upgrade the brakes on my TT...according to Audi, that would invalidate my warranty on brakes, steering, suspension, ESP and something else I forgot about. So tuning is not that much of an issue. As for that Audi-maw size grill....heheheh...I'm into it. But I agree the LEDs are very 'look at me'. . . and sheepishly somewhat attractive? I know, the angel eyes..understated elegance! |

Love my Bimmer, but AUDI'd LEDs just rock. WHen the new 5 comes out and the Halos are just as bright, I may change my mind. I like the bright "in your face" look. It's like "hey ,recognize that you're about to be overtaken by a better car than yours!" I get it all the time when I drive the Jetta....lol
Only thing about the AUDI LEDs, when the turn signal is activated, why did audi program the LEDs to deactivate on the same side selected? |

This is a BMW forum. Of course we're going to tell you to get the 335i. Test drive both cars and see which one you like more.

Absolutely not, I meant changing my mind about my opinion of the Audi LEDs still rocking once the new 5er comes out. I understand the new 5er HALOs will be LED, hence, MUCH brighter.
Get the BIMMER whichever one it is. I'm a BMW fanboy through and through. Sorry for the thread hijack. |

I think the 335 in coupe form is one of the most elegent, clean, and sexy cars on the road in the $40-50k range. That being said, the A5/S5 are one of the few cars that I think looks better.
As for the interior, if you opt for the bimmer I think you will find that the clean lines and simplicity of form and function will grow on you. When I was first shopping for my car I thought the 335 interior was outdated and plain....now I love it. Performance wise, there is something about the feel of the 335 that, to me, one ups the audis that I have driven. The fun to drive factor with rwd, and the ability to raise the traction control threshold or turn it off completely make for a really REALLY fun to drive car. S5 will perform as well, but won't be quite as fun to drive (IMO of course). Would I do it again? Despite having my first hpfp failure this weekend at 4800 miles I would probably do it again. But that only goes for the E92. If I was looking at a sedan, I'd seriously consider other options (S4, G37, IS350). |

I for one would hold out for SC Audi S5.
I think the body lines are absolutely beautiful & with the right cosmetic modifications nothing comes close. Of course, expect there to be limited performance mods available, but lots of cosmetic mods. The interior is MUCH nicer than the 335i .......... possibilities below ... BMW all the way; Audi's are soft. The bimmer talks to me everyday I get in and it wow's me. I have never felt so in control.

One car being faster on a track than the other has absolutely no bearing on my decision regarding which car to buy so that video does absolutely nothing for me but provide a few minutes of entertainment. It certainly would have an impact on my purchase if I planned on racing, but I don't race, I use my car for daily transportation and I want the car that pleases me most in THAT situation. Now that said, I do like a car that has some power and handling prowess, but I really don't care if it's the best in its class. I base my purchasing decision on cost, looks, and feel - not best 0-60 times, top speed numbers, or g numbers.
Between the S5 and 335 coupe, I looked at both and I chose the 335 because it cost less, has a slightly roomier back seat, and I liked the overall feel of it better. Looks wise it's very close. I like the exterior of the 335 coupe better and I like the interior of the Audi better. They're both plenty fast for me and handle very well on the street and I couldn't care less which one is faster. |

Bmw VS Audi services
I would never buy an audi because their service department is not quite the most knowledgable. I understand that I may just have had a few mediocre experiences by having only gone to 1-2 dealers, but I also have friends that have had bad experiences at Audi dealerships, they just dont seem to care about customer retention.
As for BMW it has been a excellent experience at all the dealerships wanting to keep me as a customer. Whether it be a elevated trade in price or checking the car and fixing everything for free (under warranty) bmw wants to be the best. Dont forget bmw's inline 6 cylinder is over 80-90 years old... |
