Porka goes home....

Just returned from a fantastic holiday in the Vosges mountains (Alsace region) and a trip to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Driven on the best roads I've ever seen, not a drop of rain all week just glorious sunshine and very sticky roads, seen some beautiful scenery/places, great food and loved driving on the autobahns!

Few pics. hope you like.

First few are of Porscheplatz, basically the Museum, factory, offices and the biggest Porsche dealership I've ever seen all fill one corner of Stuttgart!

Forgot to mention that last weekend there was a Bugatti festival in Moselheim which would explain why I saw a Veyron (French reg. plate) on the motorway on Sunday and Monday heading back towards Calais another Veyron but this time a GB plate. They certainly stand out!

Also saw heading back to Calais the Red Bull F1 team lorry with two tired looking guys in the cab. Didn't realise until I got home that they'd driven from Italy, no wonder they looked tired.

Nice Pictures Helen sounds as if you had a nice break and was able to enjoy some great driving in the Porsche
Btw: Is that Porsche's equivalent to the DXB in the 11th photo down?

Fantastic photo's Helen, looks like you had a great time and did some proper Porsche 'homeage' - your turbo looks great in the 'scenery' pics!

Helen - has anyone given you a run for your money with the 997T? There's not really much (or anything) that can touch it this side of a £200k++ supercar.

Interesting as you go up the car scale there are less and less cars that are quicker - with the 335d (and being in Cornwall!!) I rarely see quicker cars but there are obviously some around. But with a 997T I can't imagine there being anything faster point to point that you would ever see on a public road!

Must be a nice feeling.

Helen, great review and pics. Sound like you had a great time. I love driving in Germany too.

The only car cheaper than the Porky T which will keep up is a GT-R and an M5/M6 on a roll.

The most recent one funningly enough was a M5 Touring on the autobahn last Wednesday although it's hard to tell over there as they seem to have a different attitude ie. in the UK some folks are 'you're not getting past me', whereas over there they just move over to let you past and it's no big deal. This bloke was playing a bit though it was obvious. He sort of kept up when I accelerated in 6th gear but once or twice I dropped into 5th and left him but I don't know how hard he was trying. His car was obviously not de-restricted as I hit around 170 mph and he was stuck at 155 mph. He wasn't very confident on long sweeping bends though as I easily left him.

Overall I haven't really come across anyone who seriously wanted to try, or they do for a while but when it's obvious I'm easily keeping up they give in. Never come across a GTR though - haven't seen any around my way tbh.

Was very interesting at the Porsche Museum as they had a 3D cut away of a 911 and loads of audio/visual screens on every build aspect of the cars. I'm not saying the new ticket price is necessarily justified but when you see the materials used and the thickness, the attention to detail of the whole build process you begin to appreciate what goes into the cars technology wise and how every aspect ie chassis, suspension brakes etc. are designed to withstand the power the engines can deliver and maintain longevity.

Certainly a car I've enjoyed owning very much.

They do seem to be the only supercars that don't break down.

The inlaws had a 355 for a while which I was insured on - the build "quality" was diabolical.

Fiat switchgear, boot and bonnet flexed very badly when opened or closed, engine directly exposed to rain, etc, etc. Same with a Ferrari my dad had (much older one) and his mates spun his 328 GTS (new at the time) at Goodwood, didn't hit anything yet bent the chassis and it was a write off! Dad's 928 (him and mates hired the track for a day) didn't miss a beat during the whole day despite being utterly thrashed.

Lambos are better but still not there. Only the R8 is in the same league.
