Keeping car on and listening to radio - will it kill the battery?

Hey,

I'm coming from a 1988 buick park avenue to a 2008 328i, so there are a lot of things i'm getting used to.

I was wondering if I were to listen to the radio lets say for like 40 mins, would it kill my battery? should i start the car up and then turn it off every 20 mins or so. I don't want to be stuck somewhere.

Thanks

ur car will automatically shut off after like 15 or 20 mins....and if you batt goes low, your car will also notify you with some dash warning!

No you won't kill your battery because your car will cut off the power within like 15min or so. Don't turn on your car on and off every 20min or so, that's just a really bad idea. Most engine wear occurs from turning your car off and on. Here's an idea, invest in a MP3 player and a set of headphones. There is really no need to use your car stereo when you're not driving.

i have a related question: is there a way to turn off the chimes when the car is off and the door is open?

Sometimes i want to hear a bit of music while i'm cleaning my interior, so the doors will be open, but the chimes dont seem to stop and it drives me nuts, so i give up and take the key out and forget about listening to music. In previous cars i've owned, Id turn the key backward to get rid of the sound...

You can turn it on again without starting the car. Either push the volume knob (99% sure it would work) or to turn on car electronics push start/stop engine button without depressing brake pedal.

Always listen to music for like 40min while I clean the car, no problems.

a) remove the fuse that is responsible for the chime (not recommended)

b) take the key out and then turn the radio on. the chime wont bother you if the door is open but you'll have to turn on the radio every 5 minutes cuz the car turns it off to save power.

40 mins is not a good idea. Maybe 10 minutes is okay. The radio drains the battery FAST, especially if you have navigation.

I find the car only chimes when the key is left in and the driver's door is open... I usually just keep the driver's door closed and open the passenger side one... no chiming...

Alternatively... I think in your radio's audio setting, there is a setting for "Gong", maybe you can just turn that right down? Or, you can always disconnect the chimming speaker located under your steering column in the foot well.

hmm.. some people are saying do it and some are saying dont do it. so im kinda confused...

Sometimes after dates you just want to chill in the car and listen to some music...

It's usually not on full blast maybe at like 30%... I dont see whats wrong with it..
