giac interest
Hello,
I am new to the forum, I am going to get the giac flash along with my brother in law and wanted to know if there are any other members interested in this so that maybe we can get a better deal. I have talked to the guys at pfaff and they have given me a range depending on how many people are interested. let me know if anyone would like to reflash your 335 at pfaff on jane st. I don't know if i am in violation of anything but i am just an enthusiast trying to get everyone a better deal should there be any interest. Regards, Luke |

Partially interested, along with another forum member. Both of us from Montreal. Still wanna see how Stage 2 turns out with hand held switcher. Got a quote from Ottawa based "Komressor Kanada" $800.00 USD S1 flash, plus $100.00 CAD install fee. If there is more then 6 cars to appear, they'll waive the install fee. Oh yeah plus the taxes.

Emailed to Pfaff Tuning this morning (08/21) about the S1 flash for my E60 535 and he was supposed to get back to me on the pricing but never heard back.
If that's what Pfaff quote you, then that's a pretty good GB price @ $749 + taxes. I have actually book an appointment with Oakville BMW for a Dinan S2 flash next Friday. The price is $2,550 + taxes. Of course, the much higher premium is put on for any possible warranty protection claims. I don't dispute the steep price for Dinan is outrageous and now I have to weigh in the pros & cons between the two flashes. Right now, I am leaning towards GIAC. Final decision will be made next Wednesday. |

How does GIAC compared to JB3?
I like JB3/JB+ b/c it can be uninstalled prior to getting the car serviced and it's not detectable by the dealer. How about GIAC? Would factory ECU update (sometimes done to clear bugs) wipe out GIAC? And would factory detect it?
leaning towards JB3/JB+ for ease of installation and perhaps yield similar power to GIAC. Mike, maybe you can chip in on this one. Thanks...still debating b/w JB+/JB3/ GIAC

You can't beat the JB3 for price and removability and the fact you can sell it after you are done which makes cost of ownership a lot less, and you get a lot more tune in terms of power and map selection for almost half the cost (349 or 579 versus 8-900 for the GIAC) Mike |

I think a lot of ppl will be switching to the GIAC flash, look at all the reviews on performance and driveability.
this is what so many have been waiting for! the piggies do the job but are limited in what they can do/control and safety issues have been raised. dont let resale be an issue....piggies depreciate at a phenomenal and exponential rate! go with the best driving experience with safety in mind. I will be talking to pfaff today. We need to figure out who is actually going ahead and they can leave a deposit with pfaff. I will follow up with info on the flash loader although until released I'm sure they'll tell me there will be no pricing. This is an option I would like to buy myself but won't wait for.

Just spoke with Alex @pfaff. They will be working out details this week and we should be good to go for next week provided we have five guys. In terms of what happens when the dealership flashes over your giac tune they are still figuring out how to address that. As far as the flashloader is concerned
there is no info for now but any updates will come our way as it is available to pfaff. |

Would you guys recommend doing this to a brand new E90? I am about to pick up my car and is interested in doing this flash....but how will this impact on the longevity and warranty of the car?

Commie,
After seeing the potential of a tuned N54, I simply could not own one knowing my car was stock. Performance for dollar is unbeatable. If you are concerned with warranty, unfortunately that is the risk you take. When the map switcher comes available then all you will have to do is load your stock map before you go in for service. The dealership will not explore wether or not your are tuned unless they have a reason to, which is highly unlikely. |
