(Un)Cancelled E92 Order

Well, I have cancelled my coupe order today. One of the other current threads on here talks about getting a good deal, and the more I think about it, it just wasnt.

So I am sorry to say that I wont be bringing an E92 to UK2.

Sorry to hear that.. it must have been a helluva decision to make.

But better to walk away for now than regret it for the ownership of the car.

yeah... sorry to hear.

Must admit I was a bit disappointed with preliminary trade-in figures for my Z4, but next March it will be 2.5 years old and spring seems like a good time to sell a soft-top. I'm hoping to get the order for my coupe sorted sometime next month.

Yeah, it was a really hard decision, and now I'm not sure what to do. Do I just stick with the current car, maybe remap it and get some decent wheels. Go buy 6 cylinder E90 saloon, or heaven forbid, buy a non-BMW...

Hmmm - I'm waiting to see the E92 in person before I actually sign on the dotted line, but I'm 99% certain it will be my next car The only non-BMW I would seriously comtemplate would be the Porsche Cayman, although thats likely to cost me an additional £9K ... and I'm still not totally convinced by it.

The non-BMW I'd consider is down-market slightly, the Audi A3 3.2 Quattro, as you get the 4WD, fantastic DSG gearbox and active steering that works and a whole load more for considerably less money.

Please dont flame me for saying that, I've been on the beers to ease my depression.

Mark,

Oh dear that is sad news.

I hear what you are saying but just consider this ...

I have a 3 series saloon 330i M Sport on order and due any time now and I had made the decision this was the car I wanted for a number of reasons but the areas which may apply to you are:

I also considered the new Coupe but did not pursue becasuse:

1) I loved the M Sport kit which is not available on the new coupe
2) The new Coupe is more money
3) I knew I would get little or NO discount on the Coupe, with it being a brand new model.

My last car had a no discount policy and this is usually the case with launch cars, it's one of those things the dealers can get away with for a while.

Once you come to terms with this, you just have to accept that you won't be getting as good a deal as you would with a car that's been out 12 months plus or whatever.

I knew I could push for a great deal on the 330i and got what I believed to be a good deal, but equally if i was dead set on a particular car and knew there was no discount on the new car, I would just set out to get the best deal I could on my part-ex.

Consequently, although you may not have got a discount on the Coupe, you will have the exclusivity of owning a rare car for a while

Just things to consider ?

ps: Don't go rushing into buying another car, just because the figures fit, or you may regret that more in the long run .. if your car is a big thing to you, consider this carefully.

Decide on the car you "really" want and then set out to get the best deal you can on "that" car from whichever Dealer wants your business most

Mark - how about keeping the E90 for a while and try and get a pre-owned E92 in a years time? You'd probably get an ex-demo or pre-registered car with large amounts off the list price.

I guess it does depend on what they offer you for your car, mind.

This is kinda bothering me a bit. I've almost got the feeling that the 3 coupe might go the same way as the 6 series and Z4, where they offer a Sport model but not an M Sport and the styling differences between Sport and standard trim are pretty much non-existant. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I definitley plan to have the Sports seats in my 3 coupe though.

Actually these 2 points are quite relevant, it was more money for the coupe and there was no discount, whereas I could have gotten an excellent discount on a 3litre saloon. I think as time went on I wasnt sure I really wanted the coupe enough to warrant the big total difference in price. Plus I still keep worrying about the practicalities of a 2door.

Maybe it will all become clear when I see a coupe for real and I can put it out of my mind or I'll decide I really do want one and to hell with the cost.

Question

That's exactly right Mark !

Like I say, I just fell in love with the M Sport car and wanted the 330i engine, so it was easy for me.

You could probably get an M Sport or SE saloon car with the same engine ... but for a lot less !

hmmm ...

Sorry to hear you've cancelled, but better now than if you'd bought the car and regretted it.

I agree with Snakes post and got my 330i for exactly the same reasons. Plus one other - after running an 04 e60 I was not keen to get the first iteration of a new model, especially a turbo engined one, because of reliability concerns.

I would have loved an M3 - it's been a dream car of mine for several years, but I knew it would cost me and of course it's old news now.

I've had 3 e46 coupes and loved the 2 door sporty look. I would have gone for the e92 coupe if it were not for the fact that I love a bargain. I knew it would cost because it's new. The 335i saloon / tourings will be the same, but I think there may still be some discount on those because they are e90's.

I'm going to enjoy my 330i for at least a year, maybe 2 and look again then.

I also looked at the A3 3.2 quattro. It's a nice car (my friend has one)very 'stealth' - looks pretty conservative really. In the end though it's not a coupe - it's a hot hatch. For the money - I'd probably try and bag a Golf R32 instead - I also gave serious thought to a 'sensible' golf GTI - but felt it was to small to use as a main family car (even though it's not much smaller than the e90).

I don't think practicality is a huge issue with the coupes - it never bothered me. If you have an alternative that you would be happy with - go for it now. If not - wait 2 or 3 months and you should start to see discounts on the coupe.

OK I caved. I 'uncancelled' my order . I must have been in 20 different cars over the past few days, none of which gave me the same satisfaction on the road as my current E90. Damn the cost, I want the car

Hahaha!

I thought you might say that, Mark!

Are you still likely to pick it up on or before the 23rd?

The 23rd would be the absolute earliest, although if it does come in time I might try for a sneaky Friday evening pickup on the 22nd. The dealer is doing a preview on the 21st, and they are expecting those to come in on the 16th. Mine has already been built, there's just no word on when it will arrive at the dealer yet.
If I could pick it up on the morning of the Saturday, then that Donnington trip would be the perfect way to run it in.

Is it the 330d you are getting? I thought initially only the 325i and 335i would be available (at launch).

Well done though!

Just read the update on this post Mark and now being able to speak from personal experience, I "know" you have made the right decision.

The E90 is a stunning car and I am certain the Coupe will be a sensational car.

I am already thinking about making it my next choice in a couple of years time, when the prices have settled and there is an M Sport available

Yeah, the Coupe's a stunning car. I've just been invited to my dealer launch.

I'm tempted not to go as I'm sure I'll end up ordering one!
