Ordering a 335d

Hi all,

After researching the hell out of diesel bmw's, I've set on getting a 335d with that eco-credit (4500) and diesel tax break (900). I've been in the market for a new car and with the introduction of this promotion I can't resist!

I think I'm set on Montego Blue with the Oyster/ Black Interior with Aluminium trim. My question is for anyone with the oyster leather interior. Is it hard to clean? Does it stain easily?

And for all 335d owners...

How is the drive and the torque?? The torque is probably what tipped me over the edge. The fact that even at 80mph there is enough torque on tap to pass someone without switching gears is so amazing. And the sheer power when accelerating from a full stop.

thanks and i am super excited not only for a more powerful car but for the gas mileage along with the power.

btw my previous car was a 325xi so this is a big upgrade for me.

Are you sure you can order a '10 with the $4500 EcoRebate?
I just bought a '09 335 and I was asked if I'd be interested in the 335d with the rebate.
I said not really and the conversation went on a bit and the salesman said the rebate is on the '09s and not a order '10.

That was 7/30.I don't know if August changed things.

if i understood correctly, the 4500 eco discount is only valid til end of august. unless you can order one and have it delivered before 8/31, i'm afraid your custom ordered 335d will not qualify for the eco thing. but double check with your sales person.

last week i chatted with a sales person, he told me eco discount would only apply to cars on the lot. they have already met 09 diesel allocation. but different dealer might have different situations. good luck.

don't forget to add up the clunker 4500$ if you can as well. It can be a sweet deal. My brother almost got one yesterday but ended up with a 328i loaded, which he got for 1500 below invoice + 3500$ for clunker. Aw/brown leather plus prem, xenon, cwp, ipod and few more goodies.

OTD with 8% cali tax for 36k and some change.

Hi

I just got my 335d coming from a 545 - I love it. I did get Nav/Phone/Music (a must) M-Sport kit, wheel, seats etc, in space grey - super stoked

I some how missed Xenons and the light pack (little interior lights everywhere inside, plus the puddle light on the wing mirror like the 5 series - cheap as chips when you order but makes a difference for a BMW nutter)

So if i was doing it again I'd make sure I got those options, however if I'd insisted I may not have got the end of month deal I got....overall 100% happy - you've got want something in my next one I guess!

go for it, the big D engine will scare you on the odd occasion - I thought I was pretty used to powerful cars...

Cheers

The 335d is an animal for a diesel.
Check out my blog below for my 335d thoughts so far.

Doesn't the 335d come standard with Xenon adaptive headlamps?

Well, I'm going for a test drive on Saturday so I'll feel first hand how the torque is gonna feel. I thought the eco credit was given if you buy the car before 8/31 and not dependent on when it is delivered?

Just got off the phone with the dealer.

He said that 335d's are in high demand (is he kidding?) and won't be able to pull another one off another dealer's lot.

I thought the 335d was in low demand because of its price point and because Americans aren't really warm to the idea of diesels yet.

It really depends on personality I think. I came from a 335d euro spec (286 bhp/428 lb/ft) to a 335i and I love the 335i more than I loved my 335d. I drove the diesel for 15.000 miles, so it's not that I didn't get to know the engine.
It's true that the diesel has better torque and in terms of flexibility you might argue that the engine is better. There is a cool factor as well in having an evil dielse, but it just didn't excite me the way the petrol does. I didn't find it to come alive the same way the petrol does and I never drove with my windows rolled down in the diesel :-)

That being said, it's a killer engine and definitely the best diesel I've ever driven.

Believe me,it the 335d was in demand,there wouldn't be a $4500 rebate.
Interest is up only because of that rebate.
The 335d is $3600 more than a 335i to begin with.

I tested the 335d and it was a very powerful beast. THe credit makes it more reasonable given the price premium.

I can see how demand is now higher. Bottom line is it gets people on the lot.

Just to be accurate you should take into account the $900 tax credit from the IRS which would give you a net difference of $2700.

The $4500 is great but too bad it ends 8/31 since it forces most people to hunt for their choice from US stock.

I got lucky and ordered mine in March, picked it up July 15 and managed to order all the options I wanted. I got very lucky!

There seems to be a few in southern MI. Are you driving it this winter?

I do plan to drive it in the winter but perhaps not in the snow and slush. The novelty will not have worn off by then and the car is a bit unique too.

I'm putting Blizzaks all the way around and driving it all winter. I'm so glad I'm out of front wheel drive cars. Here's my plain jane.

I would be all over the 320d if it were available, mostly because of the higher fuel economy and the option to have 3 pedals.
