certified 335i check list
hey guys first post here!
I'm moving to orange county later this year and need a fast whip I was really surprised on the resale value on some of the 335i's I found on autotrader!!! Mainly interested in a 335i with just under 20k miles for $27k..certified of course. So what kind of things should I double check...I know I should get service records but what else?? I don't want to be part of a horror story getting a lemon |

335 Austin, look for defects on the paint. If you have a great eye and you can pick out imperfections, such as orang embossing, that means the car has been repainted. Open the hood, look for any place that has an overspray; even the trunk, doors. Even though they may claim that the car hasn't been in accident, that does it hasn't been. The law state that any damage under $500 doesn't have to be reported to the DMV. Look at Service records. Drive the car. If it is a manual, play with the clutch a bit to see if it is slipping. At 27k you wouldn't expect any wear, but I've seen my share of worn out clutches; people take them to the track and/ or they don't know how to drive a clutch, and they burn those suckers. If it is an automatic, I am no expert on that. Check all light bulbs are working. Test the braking system. Find out if they need to be replaced. Look at tire wear, see if there is abnormal wear; normally it would appear on the inside of the tire. Play with the radio. If it has a navi, play with it. When driving it, play with the steering wheel, play with it back and forth, testing the suspension.
If you have a reliable technician, pay the 85 dollars and have them go through a thorough check-up. If you don't know of any, I can supply you with a name in COsta Mesa. Good luck. Remember, ask ask ask. |

Excellent advice! Having an independent technician check out the car is one of the best investments you can make. Better to spend a little money now, then buy a problem laden car later.

The BMW check is pretty thorough but, I wouldn't get a 335i if it's going to be your only vehicle because if you get a bad one they can be very unreliable. If you have another vehicle, they are VERY fun cars, and very pretty.
