So my 335i is in for long cranking . I received a 328i as a loner. Actually I am pretty impressed for a base model. The car is slower than the 335 by a good margin, but the way people talk about it, I was expecting a complete dog.
It's quite peppy and has decent passing power when asked. After I dropped of my car, I took the 328i home through the twisties, with less power it was easier control in the corners, you could basically just mash the throttle coming out of a tight corner, with my 335i I always have to worry about kicking out the tail if giving it too much power. The only I didn't like too much was the automatic transmission on that car, kind of lazy, compared to the auto in the 535i I was given a loaner last time. |

They gave you a 535 loaner? I always get a damn 328. Nonetheless, they are great cars like you said.

Yea funny story, I had to con my way into that one. I forgot to ask for a loner, so they were trying to put me in a rental. I told them, "well I requested a loaner." So he's like, "well let me see what I can do." He comes back and he told me the girl that does the loaners was at lunch. I looked at him and told him, "I'll wait." He wasn't expecting that so he told me she might not be back for an hour. I just shrugged my shoulders and crossed my legs... lol. A couple minutes later they were setting me up in a 535i. It was nice too. Too big for me, but really nice and plenty of power for a car that size.

"Actually I am pretty impressed for a base model" - well, 328 is far from the base model. In Europe you have the 330 (same engine, more power) as the last NA, just before the turbo. So in fact is the largest one ...

IT is the base model here, and the 330 in Europe make 275 hp or something?

the e90 328i we had was tons of fun. chuckable, smooth, quiet and relatively nimble.
it had a god-awfully bland combo though: AW on beige. yuck. the AT is overly-scorned. it's not terrible, but the lag time between manual inputs is somewhat annoying.
