broken gear gate/box!?
Have an odd issue. While driving I can shift from 3rd to N and 4th to N Without pressing in the clutch at all!
I had the dealer install the BMW perf ssk last summer but I am not sure that is the cause. When I try going 3rd to N etc nothing grinds or anything. There is just a tiny bit of resistance when doing It. I found this out when I mis shifted last night. The other shifts are locked in. Anyone with similar exp? |

You are driving a Manual transmission? If it's not doing it by itself you are okay. It's kinda how manual's work

he's just popping the gear box into N from 3rd and 4th. the rpm matching-no clutch using- gear change is a whole different story

hmm... thats weird. something like that did happen to me once. i was at a light and accidentally hit the shifter lightly. it popped from N to 4 without any sounds or stress but it hasn't happened again. i just went out, checked, and it's not doing it. take it in and have them take a look at it.

I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with you being able to "pop" a manual trani into N without pressing the clutch in. If the trani is doing it all by itself then be afraid

disregard my last post. it's normal as i just drove a few miles without using the clutch to disengage. Duece is right, as long as its not doing it by itself it's cool.

Do any of you guys have a problem getting the car into 1st sometimes? Occasionally when I am driving and stopped at like a light, the shifter won't go into 1st (almost like there is a lockout). If I shift into 2nd then back into 1st it remedies it.

yea. you could also give it enough gas to raise the rpm by a few hundred and it should also go in.
