Fuel pump adjustment?

after buying the original fuel pump for my 335, the dealer told me the fuel pressure needs adjustment, isn't the stock fuel pump (335i) comes adjusted and configured like it should be ?

????

you bought the original fuel pump? please explain? Did you get your original replace w/ another fuel pump?

and no, it doesnt need adjustment.....they dont adjust mechanically. There may be software changes but it more than likely needs to get replaced.

yeah, its the original fuel pump, they replaced the stock one with another original one because its time for the fuel pump change, and i was told it needs to be adjusted, so i'm wondering why would a stock original pump needs to be adjusted...

the regular "volume" pump in your gas tank (low pressure) or the High Pressure pump mounted up on your engine?

Car has 2 fuel pumps, but like Sniz said I don't think any are mechanically adjustable.

not really, I dont understand what they are telling you. It runs based on the ECU's demands. If its failing, it cant meet those demands and your car runs like ass.

Seriously, it could very well just be another bad pump. People have had "new" HPFP's fail before they left the dealership parking lot.

HPFP has extended warranty because of the recalls and failures.

here i go again to the main topic, messing with the fuel pump pressure level (ie. FMIC or DPs) can be dangerous?

FMIC and DP dont mess with the fuel pump pressure level . These two parts can alter the pressure going through your turbos. The HPFP level is computer managed, and if your pump is not meeting the demands the ECU is making, your car runs terrible like Sniz said....and its time for a replacement sadly.

No aftermarket ones yet, but the warranty on the HPFP we currently have is 10 years (extended by BMW)...and WORST case..after those 10 years, the pump itself is $250? +install...so not the most terrible item...but hopefully they can redesign the item at some point so this problem can go away in the long term

curious... i bought and replaced my own (no adjustment necessary) to avoid swapping things for the dealer visit...

anyone have any ideas on how i might be able to get them to replace my dead one if i walk in holding it in my hand ?? if i have a receipt showing i put a new on in my car and just tell them it's dead ?

I have a couple long trips planned (CA to Canada..etc) .. and really would like to carry a spare .. just in case (sad that i have to do that for a $50K car) but don't want to buy another one ...

was thinking i'd put the bad one back in as the normal warranty is about to expire and get it replaced that way, and keep the one i bought as a spare.. but that doesn't help me this summer....

I guess tischer can probably overnight me one if i needed it.. but i really don't have the day to waste if the one i just put in fails as suddenly as the one i pulled out....

do i have any ground to stand on asking them to replace one i pulled ? can they test it without putting it in a car ?

happened to my NON-TUNED car within the first 3000 miles... BRAND NEW... NO TUNE... NO NOTHING.... 3000 miles... long cranks and not starting

(and i seem to remember shiv saying long ago, and this may have changed by now.. but at least at the start.. i believe he was messing with duty cycle, not pressure....which shouldn't hurt anything... maybe shorten the life some.. but not cause failure as we are seeing)

basically $400ish shipped from Tischer.. (380 plus shipping... vs a retail of 420ish plus tax) ... and 3 hours to install yourself... i could probably do it the next time in 2-2.5 ...

seriously.. for my long trips, i'm thinking about taking a spare, and the appropriate tools... a 3 hour delay and greasy hands is better than a 1+ day delay...

is bmw gonna pay me back for my vacation time... and extra hotels..etc.. because well... it's been 2+ years and they still can't make a good pump !!!

No, the OEM pump is all that is available for now. It's not a standard fuel pump... its a mechanically driven high pressure pump specifically made for the n54

And yes, its VERY annoying

I would not do anything that shows that you're DIY'ing the fuel pump or anything else as involved in the engine's vital functions. That's like robbing a bank and then driving straight to the police station to turn yourself in. Instead, rob the bank and leave them with only enough clues not to convict you.

Here: "inside my 335" .. .well of course... it costs a lot to find you... have the Fedex truck track down a moving 335 ...

I'd call up Tischer and ask them to ship to wherever you are....(assuming you are international, but i'd ask them if i were you)
