Lowering car: Alignment right away or wait a week to settle?

Hey all,

I'm getting suspension work done this weekend (H&R sport springs and sways + Koni Yellows) and was told by the shop that I should wait a week after the install to get an alignment done - to allow the car to settle.

Anybody else also waited a bit before doing the alignment? Is it bad if I get the alignment done with the install? Thanks!

You should drive it around for a week and let it settle before you get it aligned.
It's not bad to do it right after but it might be off with the measurements.

i drove mine around for a few days before getting it aligned. one of the shops here in the bay area that does installs has an alignment machine, and they'll do it right away. but i see no harm in waiting a week just to make sure things are settled.

Thanks guys! I guess if I want to do it the right way, the alignment will be put on hold for a week.

Rob - during those days before you got your alignment, did you notice any pulling or other signs of uneven wear while you were driving?

On my previous vehicle, I lowered it myself, then immediately aligned it myself. The alignment stayed perfect for 1 year, till I hit a HUGE pot hole...

I would recomend an immediate alignment, to avoid excess tire wear during that week. Most places offer a short "guarantee" on their alignments, so you could go back and have it checked a week later...

I'll check around for the guarantee that you mentioned - I'm pretty sure that the shop that I'm doing the install at won't agree to do a second alignment if I ask them to do it right away. But there is another shop that does ONLY alignments in my area, and I'll probably check with them.

If I can't find a shop that'll do a second alignment, I'm not too worried - I average less than 250 miles a week.

and those people later say "why do my tires wear out so fast, and make so much noise??" or "how come when I'm on the freeway and I let go of the wheel, my car doesn't go straight???"
