another sob 2009 fail HPFP story

So after about 1,000 miles I got a few extended cranks. Took it in and the dealer told me they found the fault codes in the car and would call me then talk to BMW NA and figure it out. They then called me back at the end of the day and told me that it was for "something else" and wasn't anything important. They said they would keep it overnight and hopefully could replicate the problem on a cold start. So after 2 nights in there, nothing was done because they couldn't replicate the problem.

Since then I have had MANY (~20+) extended cranks and failed starts.

So yesterday I got "service engine soon" light. I thought it was just for routine service at 5,000 miles. Then I remembered that BMW's "Free maintenance" is at 10,000 miles

So here I am with a failing HPFP or injectors.

Now I am very discouraged to get a tune as I know this problem will probably happen again if it already happened this early.

Just thought I would share my bitterness with everybody. Don't think I will be going to big so-cal euro meet this weekend

I'm wondering...is there anyone who's E92 has made it well past 50k miles w/o needing a new HPFP?

It will blow goats if I'm on the 5 in the Central Valley between SF and LA in 110 degree heat & it decides to crap out.

Almost as bad will be if it craps out when I'm out of town, forcing me to go to a BMW dealer versus my local mechanic where I can swap it out myself w/o warranty apocolypse.

Seriously. How BMW can sustain a hit like this to their reputation is amazing. What's even more surprising is that they're hot on putting the N54 in a host of other cars ASAP too.

Hanz and Franz that are on the design team for this nightmare pump should be exiled a really shitty part of the USA, cutoff from their family and friends and forced to live here until they find out WTF is killing the pumps and design a proper fix for it to last 100K+ miles.

So recall it, and replace it with what? 2009 pumps are failing...

I was actually in the list for the recall on the early pumps... but I had already had my pump fail. 100% stock.

Been there, done that. Surroz BMW in Visalia. While stranded, stay at the Marriot and hit up Brewbakers for micros - that's what I did.

1200 miles = LPFP failed
2300 miles = clutch failed/broke
9500 miles = HPFP failed

I am about to roll over 10k miles now, car is 10 months old.

E92 6MT July 2008 build.

My neighbors think I must own a tow truck since it is always at my house. They like to drive by in their used 2001 minivan and honk at me while my brand new car is being lifted onto the roller-back, again. This is my 1st BMW, might be headed back to Japan for the next car...

just got the service engine light soon today with no noticeable power deficit. no long cranks yet... does this mean HPFP failure?

You are probably getting random misfires I had that on my 09. They replaced all injectors and the problem was still there. Than a couple thousand miles later my HPFP took a crap.

Tuned or not has nothing to do with whether your HPFP is going to fail. Don't miss out on the huge power increases of a quick-install PNP tune just because your HPFP might fail.

Do remember though, taking your car in for any service (i.e., failed HPFP) with mods installed is inherently risky. Most people have said that if the HPFP fails on the road, tow the car home, remove mods, then call BMW Assist and have them come get it.

CEL light disappeared when I drove it to the dealer.

Now they are keeping it over the weekend. This is stupid. Told me it was the same code that happened before and not directly related to fuel pump in the message I got. I couldn't call back to talk about it because they were already closed.

Great news tho!

My sister was backing the rental up out of the driveway to get her car out of the garage and she backed into a parked car. Broke the taillight and fucked up the bumper on the 209 328i sedan. I thought it was funny

My car definitely seems a TAD slower might be my mind playing games with me after a service engine light came on for no apparent reason I'm at 4000 miles.
Is "LIMP MODE" very noticeable am i in limp mode?
nothing shows on idrive neither. all systems ok. so im just stumped, should i call the dealer and schedule an appointment? or should i just ignore the light?

has anyone had their HPFP fail, or injector problems that used some type of fuel additive ?

i'm not suggesting that anyone should have to use something. i'm just curious if this will work or not.

i have been adding lucas octaine booster almost every tank. i only have 11 K on my early build, (08/02/07) 335, but no issues at all.

next time im getting a NA car with power. I like basic mods
cant believe it that the dealer showed me no love. It so crazyhow people with dp's get like the works. Freaking they changed out injectors, coils, spark for some user cars. Mine jack shit. I hate privately owned dealers. They know whats wrong too.

It`s strange but appears that most HPFP failures occur in the States. I spoke to my SA buddy that works for one of the largest Bimmer dealerships in Canada, and he said there have been only 3 reported HPFP failures that he is aware of.
