Question Split Second Turbo Tuner Question

Guys,

After a few days driving with SSTT I have a hard time telling my 07 335xi is any quicker than stock. I have tried to do a bunch of pulls in 2nd and 3rd to 5-6kbut can't really feel the power of the +3psi boost. Maybe my car is still adapting. What I do notice is that my car's performance is very particular to what gas I use. Mobil was ok, Sunoco Ultra great, Hess horrible. Does anyone with SSTT have had similar experience? What rpm range is the SSTT module making the most difference? What brand of gas works best for the N54?

Cheers !

I have noticed alot more torque low-mid range, but not so much on the top end horsepower when driving a car with SSTT vs. stock. I have also noticed a more pronounced difference comparing both cars at 1/2 pedal than both cars at WOT for some reason... although WOT is faster as well.

The best way to really see the difference is to take it off and drive the car. NOW it feels slower for sure. The dyno shows a good difference as well, in my experience a stock E92 6MT put down 290 RWHP and 304 RWTQ on a dynojet... then with fully adapted SSTT put down 325 RWTQ and 305 RWHP on Mustang Dyno (mustangs read easily 8-10% lower).

Back when I had my SSTT I noticed it right away, especially in low RPM ranges. It took about 50 miles to fully adapt. Did you make sure the car was in sleep mode or disconnect the battery before install? Did you check the wires and pins on the SSTT to make sure they are all in good shape?

SSTT

I disconnected the battery before installing the TT
The wires seemed fine. Is there a longer adaptaion period if you
remove disconnect the battery vs wait 20 min for ecu to power off?
One idea i had was to get a g-tech SS unit and do some test runs with and w/o the TT.

I use Hess (93) all the time and my car seems to run just fine on it. I don't notice a difference at all between Hess and Sunoco. I'm in MA too by the way...

I didnt notice the power until I sold the SSTT. Then I was saddened when i realized slow a stock car is.

Take SSTT off and you will feel power loss right away.

I wonder what ever happened to the SSTT2? Seems like it failed miserably in this scene, I mean could have seen that coming with a 600 starting price when the competition starts @ 279...

You can find SSTT2 for $500, but even at that price I could not pull the trigger

I just took off my SSTT the other waiting for my Procede to show up. My car is slow! The SSTT had decent low end and you can feel that difference. The isn't much on the upper hp/tq feel at all. It's a nice relatively cheap mod with minimal gains, but you have to pay to play!

I am thinking of getting either Procede or JB3 PnP after my warranty is up in another 10k miles. I am sorta lazy when it comes to removing ECU piggy back tunes before getting the car serviced. I expect that if I drop the cash on Procede or JB3 there should be a big palpable difference in power out.

Not a longer adaptation period if you disconnect the battery. Try taking it off to see the difference.

I had my SSTT for 4 months before switching to a JB3. You'll be very satisfied making the switch to Procede/JB3, they're a big difference over the SSTT.

SSTT is a great tune to start off with, but the car falls flat on its face in the higher RPM range.

That used to get me so mad.

When I switched to the JB3... the power felt unreal.

I have never done a modification on a car that was that easy, that quick, and gave THAT much power.
The huge power increase will make your jaw drop and make you take your car out for random drives.

Did you go with the JB3 PnP or the hardwire? How much time does the JB3 install take?

I got the JB3 PnP so it's easier to take off if I need to.

It now takes me about 10 minutes to get to the ECU, 5-10 minutes to put in the JB3, and another 10 minutes to close everything back up.
If you know your way around, it shouldnt take you more than 30 minutes.

I'm thinking about making a DIY video by mounting the camera somewhere while I do the whole install.

If it's your first time working on this car, it's probably going to take you 40 minutes to 1hr MAX.

The hardest part for me was figuring out where the wires get plugged into.
Then when I did it a second time, I figured out that they only fit in the slots they are supposed to and in all other slots, they dont go all the way in and dont click.

PS. You NEED to buy the BT scanner if you are getting a JB3 just in case something does not go as expected during install, or if you want to raise the boost more (use a higher map).
You might throw codes, so be safe and buy a BT scanner.
