Help with trailer wiring. Disabling PDC.
I just installed a Westfalia removable trailer hitch (or as the Europeans say Towbar) and am now trying to figure out how to wire it up properly. A concern is disabling the PDC when trailer is connected. Does anyone know how disabling of the PDC can be accomplished with the trailer connected?
Looking at some of the European suppliers it appears that PDC is disabled with their vehicle specific kits. I'd prefer not to order one of these units due to cost and their supporting a European, rather than US type connector. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Looking to do a quality job. Some links for reference.... http://www.towbar-europe.com/media/p...uanleitung.pdf http://www.westfalia-automotive.de/f...391101-003.pdf There are plenty of threads regarding trailers stating "don't do it". Don't really want that kind of advice. In my case I'll only be towing a lightweight utility trailer. I'll be posting photos showing the whole installation soon. |

Westfalia BMW CAN-bus electrics kit part number 303461300113 supposedly handles trailer detection for PDC and DSC systems.
Where'd you order your hitch? I'm trying to track one down and haven't found a supplier yet. |

Supplier for hitch
Hitches for the E90 are illegial in the USA. I don't think you will find a single supplier here.
I bought my hitch from Towequipe in the UK. www.towequipe.co.uk. There are a number of other European suppliers of hitches, or "towbars". Might want to search for Witter, Bosal, Thule and Brink for suppliers. The Westfalia hitch is very nicely made. Best of all it is completely hidden when removed. I can't speak of the other brands but I highy recommend the Westfalia detachable unit. |

Edit: By the way, they're "Illegal" only in that they're not DOT-approved for use on public roadways. That's not any worse than the mountains of "for offroad use only" lights, brake lines, exhausts, etc that are sold all over the place. Quote:
