Vorsteiner DVWP e92 Trunk Why Discontinued & Possible GB?
why is it so damn hard to find this trunk . is it like 100% discontinued now or is vors still planning on making a few more? imho there is no reason to spend the extra $200 compared to the single sided one when some of us are going to paint it completely. the $200 difference can go towards the paint.
if we setup a group buy of like 5-10 people for dvwp trunk is that possible to do?

dry vacuum woven plastic <-- fancy term that Vorsteiner uses for cheap fiberglass reinforced plastic

I've seen more DVWP trunks with alignment problems than with the 1x1/2x2 CF versions. Maybe because the material/construction process is not the same they have a harder to make "fittable".

That's because the tolerance for CF overlaid parts is lower than the DVWP part. Think about it, you are more likely to leave the CF trunk exposed and not do anything to it. So it needs to come out of the mold almost 100% perfect or else the trunk will look like shit fitted onto the car. However, for a DVWP or FRP trunk, you will have to hit up a body shop to get it fitted. They can add or cut FRP from the piece to make it fit perfect, so there's more room for error.

No it doesn't necessarily mean that. I had a double sided trunk and it never did fit right 100%. The driver side flare did not line up with the rear quarter.

when you get the DVWP does that mean there is no cf on the edge. because i want to get a vorsteiner csl trunk, but confused on which one to get there is like 2-3 different options. i want to paint it the same color as my car with no cf & want it to be a perfect fitment. any suggestions would help =)

That's correct, the DVWP is a non-CF finish. If you want exposed CF, go with the single sided. If you are set on having CF underneath, then you can do double sided although I typically recommend single sided as the OEM carpeting covers most of the underside of the bootlid.

koo. do you guys still sell the DVWP Nick? if so, is it a perfect fitment because some say its not just a lil confusing & don't want to run into any problems when installing. and is it primer ready to be painted?

DVWP and CF come out of the same mold and use the same process... I don't know what people are talking about. They all fit great.
Also, DVWP is not "cheap fiberglass" - They use a different type of Glass-reinforced plastic reserved for higher quality components. There's no way they could get regular old fiberglass to fit like this....trust me, I had a fiberglass trunk on my E46 lol. JL |

None in stock. I recommend having the bootlid painted locally for two reasons. The first is that shipping such a large painted item is difficult to do without damage to the paint. We can do it for smaller parts like spoilers but hoods and bootlids are more susceptible to paint damage so it's best to avoid this if possible. Secondly, your car's paint will fade over time so it is best to have a local body shop match the paint fade on the car so it matches the rest of the vehicle.

Yep, your body shop just sands down the clear, applies primer and paints it like a factory part. You can play with the number of coats as if you apply a small number, the weave pattern will show in the paint. The thicker you apply the paint, the less visible the weave.

so, the vorsteiner is not primer ready to paint when you buy .instead, if i take it to the bodyshop they have to sand/apply primer on it? do they have to sand down the cf on the edge or can you paint over that? do you have any pics of the bootlid with the single sided cf on a sparkling graphite? just want to see how that singled sided cf would looks on the edge of a SG insteadt of it being painted. |
