Bit Stupid, but where/how do I tell what rating a helmet has?

I guess I'm looking for one that is SA2005 since it can be used everywhere?

Full face as well. I was thinking HJC CF, but its expensive!!

I'm sure Simpson is no better...

And they say the helmet is DOT / SNELL approved...but no SA2005 rating?

I'm such a noob.

Ahhh...google. I found that the HJC is SNELL A2005, which is good. I'd still be more comfortable if I could find a sticker on the helmet, but I think I need to look for an orange SA one...good stuff.

If I'm misled, someone let me know!

Thanks

I'm assuming that helmet has a snap-out liner. If so, look under the liner.

Been awhile since I've had a helmet, but IIRC the Snell rating can be found on the tag. I also remember a sticker on mine.

You can find a list of SA2005-rated helmets here: http://snellfoundation.com/

Garage List
I just bounce it off the asphalt..if it bounces more that 25 inches..it is an SA...under..means its an M.

there's a sticker underneath the helmet liner that says what the certification is (it is right on the foam, you can't miss it)

there are many opinions out there, but i think if you don't have a rollbar M helmet is ok because the differences between M and SA are multiple impact, flame retardant and field of vision size. some say its better to have an open face helmet if you have an airbag so the chin guard doesn't break your jaw if the air bag deploys. FWIW i use M2005 rated full face helmet (HJC AC12) newenough.com is a great source for motorcycle gear (all the stuff is brand new)

With a Bell helmet, it's a sticker between the padding.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
