You can lower and raise the roof without having comfort access (certainly on UK cars).

Ok, I might be mistaken by information.

If you have comfort access the roof goes up a bit so it's easier to access luggage in the boot.

Sorry for the misinformation!

They say you can't open or close the roof when driving (3th brake light is not visible when roof is busy opening/closing)...

BUT what happens we you start driving during when the roof is busy opening? It just stop opening and you have to stop the car and press again the opening button?

I doubt you'll actually be able to drive the car (i.e. accelerate) whilst the roof is in motion.

If this is the case, the roof can only be moved when the engine is not running?

Probably you must turn e-handbrake on and its impossible to turn it off until roof isn't closed / opened.

On the old Z4 you could hold the button in and then drive off, but keep the button held to complete the operation. If you let go of the button whilst the car was moving, the roof wouldn't move until you completely stopped! I think there will be a speed detector and the roof will only move if you are stationary.

I think if u are moving at speeds lower than 30km/h, the roof would still be in motion and won't make u look like an idiot with a half opened roof :-P

Comfort Access in the E89 works same-same as E93. Info above is mostly correct.
Close to car (13 feet for E93 and probably same for E89 - antenna range), press and hold LOCK on fob to raise roof, UNLOCK to lower. Car does not have to be running.

Car must be stopped to raise or lower roof from the buttons on the dash. Roof stops where it is if you start moving.

The other interlock is the panel in the trunk. Must be in down position to lower the roof (and has interlocks on both sides - both must be engaged).
Having lived with the hardtop for over two years now in my E93, these comments:
Absolutely trouble-free (after early replacement of faulty interlock switches in top of windshield - no longer an issue in cars built after earliest runs).

Extra headroom from the design, confirmed also in E89 on test drive.

Ultra-quiet with roof raised.

Except in a pounding rain, when you really know it's a tin roof. It do get noisy in a Florida downpour.
In all, no one should hesitate because of the roof. It's a BMW home run and the E89 has two years E93 design and field experience.

US SPEC:
Lowering / Raising via FOB no problem /w ComfortAccess 302
The Roof will not move while driving. Reason Nr1: You will risk deforming it (the mechanics) since it will act as a big sail while moving.
The Roof will stop moving and the car will inform you in a very -well- obvious way that the roof operation has not been completed.... PING PING PING
No E-Brake needed.
Just tried it outside.....

Hi,
I have just got this car without comfort opening and can open the roof with the key fob button but not close it, for that I have to use the key in the door lock.
Z4 beemer guy, can you really do both with the key fob buttons. If so how?
Thanks
John

Ok, just tried this and it seems you can indeed only open the roof with the remote and not close it! A quick read of the manual suggests that if you have comfort access then you can also close the roof remotely. My dealers demo car which must have had comfort access definitely allowed the roof to be opened and closed with the remote, but I'm sure the sales guy said you could do both from the remote control without needing comfort access.

I tend to only operate the roof with the engine running as it apparently puts less strain on the battery.
