E90 Recall: Software

My wife was at the BMW dealership with her E90 3 series last friday...they said that there is a recall starting up right now with ALL E90 3 series. She took it in today and had the recall completed, it was a complete reload of the software for both the Engine and Transmission. I guess they said that hers was one of the first to be done in the USA and the head of the BMW service department did it himself. The recall is supposed to increase fuel mileage and exceleration. I am only posting because you may want to call up your local service office to get in now before the letters are delivered to owners. I had a 2004 M3 and whenever there was a recall the dealership was PACKED. If you have already heard then sorry for the repeated message.

Good luck, Steve

if you can, can you provide the recall number/detail? that way, itl'l be easier to talk to the service people. And I know you said ALL E90's, but maybe it's only 325's?

If someone confirms this for 330's please let us know...it sounds like a pretty good recall to have...more fuel milage and acceleration!!...I hope it's not on automatics only

Just did a quick google search and also checked 3 different automotove sites that list recall data and none of them had any info on 2006 BMW 3 series recalls so if there is one, it's very new.

I am not sure if recall is the same as reprogramming. I had my first inspection and they reprogram my emmision which I was notified thru the mail. Recall is something I would consider a defect and must be announce publicly. In this case, reprgramming is not a defect (life threatening issues) so it can be done on your next convenience visit. We need more detail and see the invoice from the service department. Where is that invoice?

Anyone tight with e90fleet and can ask him if he knows anything about this?

He is correct,

I had the oil change done to my car last week and the service advisor told me about 2 recalls -- I knew about the one - emissions, but not the other one. He said both of them involve reprogramming and it would take a whole day to do them.

I took my car to service this morning, came back and saw this post, called my SA right the way. He checked and found no recall or update for my car.

Maybe it is only on the 325 -- they will upgrade it to run faster than the 330

It is more than likely build date specific.

Me too! I only get about 400 miles per tank= 25 mpg. And that's with a mix of city/HW driving. I would like like to get as much as TX gets.

Lucky you!!! I never got more than 21mpg (and that was 80+% freeway miles), I'm mostly in the 19's!!
