Tyre pressure for track use?

What tyre pressures do you recommend for track day driving?

If you are running the stock Pilot Sport PS2's, I'd start at 38 psi (cold) all around and increase a little at a time. With the stock tires you could easily run 44 psi hot, or until the tires became greasy on the track....and then back off a bit. I run Pilot Sport Cup tires which stick like glue when hot. The cppressures are much lower (24 psi cold) with a 32 psi max hot.

Refreshing to see someone tracking their car and not just buying an M3 to drag race. The DCT will be a blast on the track. Enjoy and let us know how you do.

Thanks for the info. I did about 20 laps at the Serres Racing Track in Greece and it was a blast. The DCT was phenomenal at the track, almost a child's play. I started at 40 psi and warm tyres but because I was not running nitrogen but air the pressure had climbed to 47 psi at the end. This made the tyres very "greasy". Brakes were consistent, no problems there. The PS2 are pretty shot after the laps and I will have to start looking for replacements soon. The thing that surprised me most was the sheer grip that the car has when tyres are warm and the tarmac is grippy. It was mind boggling, I had some 3rd gear corners where I was giving it full boot early and it refused to slide.

p.s. I had some friends advice me to change the oil after a track day, is that common practice? I have done the initial change at 2000 km and now I am running the second oil at 11 000.

Really? That seems very high!

I've just come back from a weekend at the nurburgring and was setting the pressures to about 35 all round (hot). When the tyres cooled down the pressure dropped to about 30 or 27 at the front.

The car felt really good with that pressure but I didn't try different pressures very much.

The quoted pressures on the door silla re 2.3 / 2.5 bar which is around 35 psi.

Lately with the heat I have been starting at 26.5 on all four tires. After a session the tires end up around 36 to 37.5. I am in Texas though and track temps have been around 175 degrees. New Sport Cups coming in a week, so I'll be starting over finding the right pressures. I run DSC off.

Seems quite similar to what I was using then. Surely track temp is not important, the temp your tyres get to is what matters (which track temp might affect). My tyres were getting to about 60 degrees at the front.

Front pads got to 150 degrees!!! That surprised me!
