Today I got a message telling me to add 1 qt of oil, which I promptly did.

Is this normal? The car only has 4k miles on it. I never tracked it or anything.. but I do have mods.

You do not have a problem. Adding oil from time to time is normal.

Buy a couple of quarts from the dealer so you have some on hand.

1 qt every 4k miles? that would mean around 4 qts every maintenance period... Any modded owners experience this?

there's a specification for how much oil consumption is 'excessive'. i believe it is 1qt per 1000mi? but i could be wrong on this.

I wouldn't worry about it but continue to monitor in case it trends upward

As Nick said, just track it. The same engines in the same cars can have very different consumption rates. Oil is a consumable.

I have two VWs in the driveway. One uses a quart every 1500 miles, the other appears to use none on a 5,000 oil change interval. I don't care; both engines are fine. Putting a quart of oil in from time to time is just a part of life.

I had the same issue at around 5 or 6K. Added a quart of oil and all is well. Also turbo engines burn oil much faster than normally aspirated cars.
