DIY Request: How to jack the car...

Putting it on a stand proved difficult without an adapter..

Tried making woodblocks, but it would bend..

The car jack is fine since it covers the entire plastic. It's just the jack stands with their U shape.

I know about the BMW jack adapter, but I'm wondering if that jack adapter can work on jack stands as well...

Also, anyone got a place to buy these jack stand adapters anywhere other than BMW oem?

So, since I didn't want to pay the ridiculous price on adapters, I went out and custom made these boys. The price was much more reasonable than the single bmw jackadapter.. I don't even think they sell bmw jack stand adapters...

So once again delayed from installing my springs. this time to a jack stand adapter...

ECS Tuning sells the jack pad adaptor. BMW calls the plastic piece on your car a support lifting platform. Here is the part number, 51717123311.

Mine look like yours since I did not have an adaptor.

my jack pad suffered the same faith, in fact I think we both uses the same jack stand. It also delayed me from installing my sway bar, coz I've to make wooden blocks for the jack pads.

I've received the replacement jack pad, anyone know how I get the old one out? Thanks

Oh, also, get a set of Rhino Ramp, drive the car up on the ramp so you can easily use the front center jack pad. saves me a lot of time since I don't have to jack up the left and the right separately.

I would actually pay for a set of those. Does anyone know how much something like this would cost?

Damn, the jack stands really tear that up. The adapter just looks like it would be unstable with a jack stand under it; like the car would just slide off the jack stand since it has nothing to go around.

I'm at work so I can't see the photo's everyone else posted, but a great cheap solution is a hockey puck.

They cost $2 and you can saw through a them easily enough. It's the perfect depth for our coupes; it prevents the jack from contacting the jack point and provides a nice grip on the jack. It doesn't get damaged under stress like the wood blocks do. I keep mine in my bmw supplied tool kit so I always have it handy.

Thats a really good idea, I'm going to try that. Let's see how long it takes for the hockey jokes about Canada now though...

No kidding! The trickiest part is cutting it to fit into the rectangular space only because it's hard to hold it still if you're using a hand saw. A vice would work well...

Hmm. Looks like this might work better if you rotated the jack stand 90*, don't you think?

Nope, I tried that first and the tips of the jackstand arm dig into the undercover.

It's those harbor freight jack stands. If you get a set of stands that have a flat pad vs. the grooved pad. That jack stand is designed more for a pinch rail.

When we're at the track and we need to jack the rear of the car up, I jack from the rear jack pad, then place the jack stands on one of the frame's mounting points. Right where the "X" bar terminates on the subframe.

Or just jack the rear of the car up from the center of the car at the diff.
