New Windshield today

Had a stone chip in my windshield and got it replaced today. Actually, I was hoping they could just fix it, buy my insurance company's policy is that if it's in the driver's line of sight it has to be replaced.

At least at 20,100 miles I have a brand new windshield with not scraches or marks in it! Hope that lasts for a while anyway.

Replacing the windsheild was quite a job, he had remove several parts under the hood, including the heppa filter case, etc.

Bump...

Thanks for the report.

I got a little bullseye chip in the lower left corner of my screen, and I bought that stuff to fillit with. Hopefully this winter it won't spread...sounds like quite the process to change.

Did you see the bill once the job was completed?

Having mine replaced this week as well for the same reason. I was going to just keep it but I want to get my windows tinted and didn't want to tint over it. If it spreads I'd have to pay to redo the tinting.

How much did it cost? I know your insurance paid for it, but I'm curious to know how much the replacement costs. I suppose it came with a new light/rain sensor?

I replaced a windscreen on my brother's Nissan 350Z last year. It took almost 4 hours to replace!! It cost about US$1800! (ZAR12,500)
Thank goodness for insurance.

I didn't actually see the price, but I know it was high. Probably $600 or more just for the glass.

Was this the E90 or E91 and who did the job? Dealer or Glazer?

It was the E90. I used an auto glass company recommended by my insurance company. They came to the house and replaced it.

Was it the OEM or another brand? FOr that much I would hope that it was OEM. Since the windshield is softer than most I wonder it AM windshields would be stronger and less prone to rock chips? Anybody know?

Do you mean rain sensor attached to the glass? I have never seen a rain sensor glass. Unless the E90 is different the sensor is removed and re-attached to the new glass.

If I understand the rain sensor correctly there is a film inside the glass that the sensor bounces its light off.

I don't know about the film I had my windshield replaced on my SUV and they just re-attached the sensor.

I had my windshield replaced at the dealer when I had a rock chip last year. I paid for the deductibles but the total cost was over CAD$1000.

I got my windshield replaced twice this week. First they put in a BMW windshield. I got alot of windnoise and asked them to fix it, and then they put in a new windshield. I just realized today that they put in a non-BMW windshield but with the rainsensor, the brand is called PPG Sunshade Duplate.

Does anybody know if this is a problem? Should I go back (again) for an original BMW part? Or is it no problem?
