e90 or X3?
Ok, I know, you all have a 3 series here, but I just wanted to ask if anyone had considered an X3. I LOVE the 3, but would really like the extra capacity of the X3 from time to time. I drove one once and was very impressed. Did any of you consider the X?
Thanks. AS |

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

I got myself the 3 series and my girlfriend the x3. She loves it and frankly, the change in driving vehicle is kinda nice sometimes. Overall, it's a great car. Really love it. If I had to chose betweent the two, I would still have to got with my 3.

It's not just about horsepower, but how powerful your horses are.

I think the X3 drives very well. I just wish it looked more like the X5.
Oh, go with the e90. |

DO you have kids?? Do you travel?? Do you have hobbies that require trunk space surfing, snowboarding. IF so get the x3 but if not then get the E90 is cheaper too

Aren't the X3s made in Austrailia? not Austria? That's what I heard when I was interested in getting an X3. I thought it was not GENUINE so I got my E90 and I never regret getting it.

BMW are just about to launch the X3 with the 3ltr diesel engine, making it capable of 0-60mph in just over 6secs!
Jeremy Clarkson thought it was crap of road though, but then again, in the real world depends what we'd call off road. If I was still riding off road bikes and used the X3 as transport then it would just have to deal with farm lanes and the odd muddy field, which IMO would be fine? E90 does sit quite low though doesnt it, so may not be ideal for odd farm lane etc? |

I personally feel the X3 is the least desirable vehicle in BMW's lineup. The ride is rock hard, the styling is mediocre at best, it still doesn't handle like a car and the BMW wagon is just as efficient at carrying stuff.
The upside is that lease deals are pretty sweet for the X3 right now (possibly because of what I mentioned above). If you can't step up to the X5 (which has much more quality materials, a better ride, a less polarizing design, and attractive lease deals as well), and are dead-set on an SUV, I'd look elsewhere. If you want sporty check out the FX35, if you want luxury check out the Lexus RX350. Both are as quick or quicker than the X3, I believe. If you want "trucky", there are infinite number of choices in the marketplace. |

I think I concur with Jeremy Clarkson. The X3 is no good on or off road and ugly enough to make children cry

My wife drives the x3 and we both love it - but it is not a car, it IS heavier (1.8 tons) than the e90 and you can feel it.
However, it drives like no other SUV out there, including the x5 (it is more agile than the x5). BTW it is assembled in Graz, AUSTRIA, not Austrailia at a Magna Steyr plant. So the assembly is sub-contracted to a company which also make the ur-G wagon for MB. The build quality is on par with other BMWs from our experience. The annoyances we experienced are common to e46s (which is the platform donor for this generation of the x3), such as creaking windows seals in front (fixed) and the schtupid AC mildew smell (to be fixed) Looks are subjective, some of you think it is "gay" looking, some think it makes children cry. Our children are perfectly happy in the x3 and we think it looks good. But I personally would not get the x3 unless you really dig the higher driving position. Otherwise-get the e90 or even if you want, the xit. |

once i see the fuel economy 16 mpg , i dropped the idea, i was once put in a demo car for a day, it rides rock solid, the seats are a lil too hard for my taste...
the only thing you gain is the extra headroom, overall i would still pick the E90
